Job Summary

The Aerospace Physical Sciences Laboratories (PSL) is a diverse scientific organization that provides a broad and innovative research and development backplane for a growing space enterprise. PSL's impact is grown through a diverse research portfolio that blends foundational scientific research with cutting-edge technology development to serve a broad customer base. The Propulsion Science Department is seeking a with hands-on laboratory experience to support a wide variety of experimental activities in electric propulsion. As a Member of the Technical Staff (Physics), you will provide laboratory support on a range of essential tasks for government, civil, and commercial customers. You will have the opportunity to gain hands on experience and technical knowledge in electric propulsion and applied plasma science for space systems.

Work Model

This is a full time position based in El Segundo, CA which requires 100% onsite work.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Supporting a wide range of test activities in applied plasma science including electric propulsion, multipactor/corona breakdown, electrostatic discharge, plasma sputtering, and more.

  • Working directly with senior technical staff to plan and carry out multiple simultaneous laboratory experiments

  • Perform data processing and report generation

  • Conduct laboratory maintenance and infrastructure improvements as needed

  • Participate in customer meetings and briefings

  • Excellent teamwork skills as well as an ability to work independently under the direction of a senior technical staff member

What You Need to be Successful- Member of the Technical Staff (Physics)

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in physics, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, or other STEM disciplineis required

  • A minimum of 2 years of applicable professional industry experience in a research laboratory, post completion of degree is required

  • Experience with electric propulsion systems and test equipment, plasma diagnostics, plasma-material interaction, and/or plasma chemistry

  • Knowledge of data analysis, MATLAB, Python, LabVIEW, and report writing

  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

  • Master's degree in physics, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, or other STEM disciplineis preferred

  • Experience with vacuum systems, electrical circuit design and manufacture, industrial automation / PLCs, and data acquisition systems

The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.

$86,600 - $129,800 Pay Basis: Annual
