The University of Pittsburgh Department of Rehabilitation Science and Technology is seeking a full-time Instructor to Full Professor faculty position in the non-tenure stream. Responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing curriculum for students in the Master of Science in Prosthetics and Orthotics program.
  • Assisting with program/curriculum development, accreditation, student clinical education, student recruitment, policies, and procedures specific to the O&P educational program.
  • Student advising and mentoring.
  • Design and development of research protocols, data collection and analysis, and dissemination of research through peer-reviewed publications.
  • Seek peer-reviewed funding and collaborate in the conduct of research, as well as advise students and post-docs who are working on clinical (O&P-related) research projects.
  • Serve on department and other committees as approved by the Program Director and Chair.
  • Engage in scholarly activity and participate in an interdisciplinary team to conduct and support an externally funded peer-reviewed research program.
  • Participate in community service activities.
  • Participation in regular faculty meetings and program internal committees as required. Show potential to grow into a leadership position within the Department.
  • Participate in professional development activities and demonstrate leadership or leadership potential within professional society.
  • Represent the RST Department and MSPO Program through service on University-level committees.

Qualifications: Candidates should have both the teaching and clinical skills to be an effective faculty member and mentor within a Masters of Prosthetics and Orthotics Program. Should be an effective leader with strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with all constituent groups, including students, patient models, faculty, staff, and administration, as well as professional, governmental, and community partners. It is highly desirable that the candidate meet the following requirements for hire at rank of instructor to professor:

  1. ABC Certification in Prosthetics/Orthotics in good standing.
  2. Possess a minimum of five years of teaching, clinical, and/or administrative experience in the O&P field. Prior experience in teaching and/or administration of an educational program is preferred.
  3. Involvement in professional orthotics and prosthetics organizations as a committee member, committee chair, or office holder.
  4. Possess organizational and teaching skills and the ability to be a highly effective mentor to students and to work collaboratively with faculty/staff.

In addition to these requirements, it is highly desirable that the candidate meet the following additional requirements for hire at rank of Instructor to Professor:

  1. Possess a Master's Degree or equivalent in Prosthetics and Orthotics.
  2. Have prior teaching, scholarship, and/or research experience. Evidence of and/or potential for productivity in scholarly activity, as shown through publications, research grants, and presentations.
