Navy ELMR is geographically the largest, most complex ASTRO 25 system in the world. The "Documentation Engineer - Team Lead" will have primary responsibility for development, delivery and maintenance of all technical documentation required to meet contractual obligations. While primary responsibility consists of detailed Installation Design Plans and As-Built drawings, additional artifacts include Network Drawings, Power Plans, Rack Drawings, Floor Plans, technical SOPs and others. The team lead will lead Documentation Engineers and Draftsmen in pursuit of the goals set forth by the Program and has ultimate responsibility to meet delivery deadlines and quality objectives. Inputs needed for documentation efforts will be procured through photographs, redlined drawings, phone calls and occasional travel, up to 50% at times.

Responsibilities:

  • This role requires a US DoD Secret level clearance. Only those willing to possess shall apply.

  • Oversee the activities of Documentation Engineers and Draftsmen to complete documents in accordance with client contracts, Motorola standards and engineering principles to meet client schedules.

  • Carry out activities as directed by management.

  • Present plans, answer questions and provide regular updates to leadership.

  • Understand, with sufficient detail, relevant technologies to accurately represent them in customer-facing technical artifacts.

  • Exercise detailed process identifying and managing the ripple effect of changes.

  • Working with the Deployment Engineers and Field Service Technicians (FSTs), identify documentation updates necessary for each project.

  • Perform updates to relevant existing documentation (AutoCAD LT, Visio, MS Office, G-suite).

  • Train, coach and guide junior engineers and draftsmen in their efforts as they come up to speed with the efforts.

  • Establish processes and Quality Assurance (QA) plans that track efforts, progress and meet deadlines.

  • Work with the customer on standards, scope and QA.

  • Identify issues that may interfere with quality, cost or schedule and recommend options to manage impact.

  • Assess the business and organizational implications of various strategies and present those to management.

  • Present technical drawings at Customer Design Reviews, when necessary.

  • Responsible for answering client questions regarding documentation.

  • Organize and maintain documentation for ease of access and updates.

  • Work with the team to create and modify standard techniques, procedures, templates, reports, schedules and checklists.

  • Provide input for performance appraisals.

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of Motorola ASTRO Infrastructure preferred

  • Knowledge of Federal drawing guidelines preferred

  • Excel or G-Sheets power user preferred

  • Experience with scripting or tools development preferred

Qualifications: (Must have this experience to be considered)

  • Great communication skills verbal and written

  • 5 years of demonstrated AUTOCAD LT experience

  • 5 years of demonstrated VISIO experience

  • 5 years technical experience in IT, LMR or Telecom

  • Extensive experience in development of technical drawings and documentation

Basic Requirements

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years experience or 7 years experience in Engineering, or Technical Project/Program Management required.

  • 5 years of demonstrated AUTOCAD LT experience required.

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required. Employer work permit sponsorship is not available for this position.
