Overview

The Physical Therapy Department in the Lewis School of Health Sciences at Clarkson University invites applicants to apply for a full-time core faculty position as an Assistant Professor (clinical-track) physical therapy instructor. This appointment is for a full-time, 10-month position, starting in June 2025. The position is not tenurable, but includes a promotion path to Associate Professor and Professor ranks.

The successful candidate will have the ability to teach graduate physical therapy. They will also mentor graduate student capstone projects. In addition, responsibilities will include advising students and service to the department, school, and university. The teaching load for this position is 20.5 credits per academic year, distributed across trimesters.

Candidates must have a doctorate or equivalent degree in physical therapy and be qualified to teach clinical courses; they will have or plan to earn a clinical specialty certification. The ideal candidate will have strong evidence of excellence in teaching at the graduate level and the ability to work in partnership with department chairs and program directors in continually improving the DPT curriculum to meet the needs of health sciences students.



Responsibilities

* Teach a total of 20.5 credit hours of course work across three trimesters.
* Teach clinical and didactic DPT courses as assigned.
* Supervise student research projects.
* Advise students.
* Participate in all departmental activities and service duties, including departmental meetings, recruitment activities, departmental outreach events.
* Contribute to course and programmatic outcomes assessment and continuous curricular improvement.
* Contribute as a member of the university community to institutional and professional service.
* Research and other forms of scholarship are encouraged but not required for this position.



Qualifications

Minimal Qualifications:
* Possess a DPT degree and an APTA board certified clinical specialization and some clinical experience. Applicants without an APTA board certified clinical specialization but plans to do so will be considered.
* Be eligible for New York state PT licensure. Other professional licensures/academic degrees may be eligible for a DPT core faculty position.
* Strong interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills, motivation and enthusiasm to learn and mentor students.
* Ability to work with students from diverse background and strengths.

Preferred Qualifications:
* PT degree and an academic doctoral degree (PhD, DSc, DHS, EdD) or willingness to pursue an academic doctoral degree within 1 yr. of hire as needed for CAPTE faculty requirements.
* 3 yrs. of clinical teaching experience (CI, SCCE).
* Strong evidence of excellence in teaching at the graduate level.
* Experience of student advising, and supervision of student research or other capstone experiences.
