Senior Director, Corporate Finance

Summary

The Sr. Director, Corporate Finance is responsible for planning, leading, and managing a broad range of complex projects centered around Treasury, corporate and project financing, financial planning and managing execution of financial solutions with external financial relationships. This person will have an analytical team to support working closely on the analysis and decision-making of new and existing financing products with the CFO and Treasurer to identify financing needs and design the best financing solution for optimal NYPA benefit. This person will design and manage an execution strategy for the financial solution by leading a cross functional team across various staff levels. Additionally, this person will work closely with other business owners within and outside of the business unit to ensure other NYPA projects achieve appropriate financial risk allocation and best financial results for NYPA.

Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic guidance and direction in the development, implementation, transition, and advancement of the corporate finance and project finance strategy
  • Responsible for developing formal criteria for identifying, evaluating, prioritizing, selecting and approving corporate/project finance strategies in addition to external partners and advisors
  • Oversee the preparation of financial analysis, project finance structures and accounting evaluations
  • Provide updates to executive management on strategic financial initiatives
  • Lead NYPA's finance due diligence team in evaluating new project/business opportunities
  • Make investment recommendations to C-level executives and board members
  • Provide advisory services to NYPA's long-term financial strategy for project investment as needed by the CFO, Treasurer, and VP of Finance.
  • Lead project financing and other transaction negotiations including but not limited to acquisitions, divestures, purchase and sale agreements, and debt financing agreements
  • Oversee the department annual budget
  • Oversee, mentor and provide development guidance to early careertreasury team members, with constructive feedback on projects, goals and accomplishments
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent managerial and administrative skills are required, to handle multiple complex assignments
  • Excellent leadership to inspire and motivate others to perform well, ability to provide continuous feedback and encourage growth and development
  • Ability to develop team and individual contributors while ensuring quality of work, and ensuring the team understands assignments
  • Ability to manage teams in the development of a new financings and financial policy across the organization
  • Ability to develop and drive corporate finance and project finance strategic initiatives
  • Significant transaction experience and a demonstrated ability to lead complex structured capital investments in the U.S. energy, power, utility, and renewable energy sectors
  • Proven ability to make capital investment recommendations to C-level management and board members
  • Established track record of negotiating with reputable counterparties for structured project finance and bond transactions in the U.S. energy and utility industry
  • Understanding of federal and state utility regulations, Public Service Commission (PSC) policies and rulings, and FERC policy
  • Excellent presentation, verbal and written communication skills. Highly competent writing skills with ability to summarize complicated matters for a variety of audiences
  • Capable of handling highly confidential information discretely and responsibly
Education, Experience and Certifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a business-related field
  • MBA or advanced degree in Finance or another business relative field is preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of finance experience with a strong background in financial markets and financial structuring and negotiating preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of project finance investment execution preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of management/supervisory experience preferred
  • Energy /utility industry experience is required
Physical Requirements

The New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The estimated salary range for this position is: $169,010.00 - $232,380.00. The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates' relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
