Precision Health Research Core at the University of Missouri, St. Louis (UMSL)-Missouri Institute of Mental Health (MIMH)

Job Description

The post-doctoral fellow will support and lead research activities as part of the Precision Health Research Core at the University of Missouri, St. Louis (UMSL)-Missouri Institute of Mental Health (MIMH). The primary work will focus on multimodal neuroimaging processing with mentorship support and curation of data for analyses led by experts in data science and statistics. The project is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health awarded to UMSL and participating institutions (e.g., Stanford, Washington University in St. Louis, Johns Hopkins, Military HIV Research Program, SEARCH Thailand, and UCSD).

Funding is guaranteed for the first year, with support for year 2 based on success during year 1. The postdoctoral fellow will have the opportunity to lead first-authored publications and conference presentations as well as contribute to dissemination efforts led by the investigative team. Opportunities to acquire supervised clinical hours for licensure are available, however, formal neuropsychological evaluations and/or provision of mental health interventions are not formally embedded into the duties for this position. Mentored professional development activities (manuscript writing, grant writing, development of a programmatic line of research, research ethics, etc.) will be provided through each year of the fellowship. Additionally, the fellow will have access to travel funds for conferences and research meetings with the team in Thailand if interested.

This is a remote position with full technical/computational support.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate ongoing efforts by the study team to harmonize data from existing biorepositories
  • Attend weekly, monthly, and quarterly meetings
  • Communicate with the study team in writing and presentations (with support from senior investigators)
  • Assist in quality assurance of data
  • Assist and lead manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals
  • Assist with the development of new NIH research proposals
Qualifications

Ph.D. in Psychology, Neuroscience, or similar biomedical or social science area.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of the basic principles of brain MRI
  • Proficiency or capacity to utilize scripts for data processing and analysis (e.g., bash, python, and/or R)
  • Ability to communicate complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines
