The future is now, Willdan is "Envisioning the Future" of building and safety through our work with cities, buildings, and transportation. Willdan Engineering currently has openings for Part Time Code Enforcement Officers in the Kern County, CA area. The Code Enforcement Officers will be responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to creating additional, smaller living spaces ("Accessory dwelling units").

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Uniform Housing Code, Code for the Abatement of Dangerous Buildings, and municipal code pertaining to code enforcement.
  • State Health and Safety Codes.
  • Laws and ordinances regulating building construction and zoning.
  • Legal procedures, documents, affidavits, and courtroom procedures.
  • Police reports, inspection and abatement warrants and dangerous building orders.
  • Right of entry.
  • Due Process.
  • Collection and analyses of evidence.
  • Equipment and procedures used to research ownership of properties being investigated.
  • State and local enactments governing building construction, use and occupancy.

Job Requirements / Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or GED, successful completion of an acceptable course in Building Codes; and 5 years' experience in code enforcement, building construction (electrical, plumbing, carpentry, or mechanical) at the journey level, inspection, architecture, design, plan permitting, carpentry.
  • Or minimum 2 years as a Building Inspector or Code Enforcement Officer I or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the capabilities to perform the described duties.
