Job Summary

The Pharmacy Technician 3 works under the general supervision and control of a pharmacist while performing duties. The position is responsible for gathering information from medical records and other sources to coordinate patient care in the ambulatory care clinics. Day-to-day activities would include referral management, reviewing medical records for patient information, telephone calls to patients, prior authorization and/or patient assistance program assistance, and other activities to support the ambulatory care pharmacist in patient care. Specifically, the technician will take charge of the process of monitoring patients who are on the novel anticoagulants by providing medication adherence tools, telephone follow-up and bringing any significant barriers to treatment to the pharmacist's attention. The technician would also call patients with normal lab results and contact patients with adherence barriers to improve patient compliance with care.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • California Licensed Pharmacy Technician
  • Experience communicating with patients and hospital personnel, both orally and in writing.
  • Experience in and ability to perform chart review in a time-effective manner.
  • Working knowledge of using an electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Skill in organizing and ability to keep accurate records and pay close attention to details.
  • Working knowledge of Office Suite Systems (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)
  • Ability to perform pharmacy calculations accurately.
  • Ability to be self-motivated and work with minimal supervision, yet recognize when it is appropriate to seek assistance from others when limits of authority have been reached.
  • Skill in problem-solving to independently recognize and define a problem and identify the resources available to help solve the problem, create and implement viable solutions, and follow through to ensure the problem is resolved to the satisfaction of all parties.
  • Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain a friendly, welcoming environment for clinic's/department's customers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • National Board Certification (CPhT)
  • Experience working in a hospital ambulatory care clinic.
  • Knowledge of hospital, department and university policies and procedures.
  • Familiarity with hospital layout, names and location of patient care areas and clinics.

The Department of Pharmacy is a dynamic, integral, and critical part of patient care provided by UC Davis Health. As a department of greater than 600 professional, technical, and administrative support personnel, we focus on providing patient-centered medication management that optimizes outcomes through practice, education, research, and leadership through the continuum of care. We also have the largest pharmacy residency program in the country with 46 total residents in 13 different programs.

The Department of Pharmacy offers comprehensive pharmaceutical services (unit dose, IV admixtures, clinical services, infusion pumps, and teaching) throughout the health system complex 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The pharmacy services encompass inpatient pharmacy services as well as an expansive footprint in the ambulatory care space where we have clinical pharmacists embedded within our clinics and specialty care locations. Our operational teams support the health system enterprise with three inpatient pharmacies, five outpatient pharmacies, two infusion pharmacies, a home infusion service line, and the full complement of pharmacy purchasing, stores, and distribution.

Work Environment
