The Defense Systems Group (DSG) provides analysis-based decision support to senior leaders on space architectures, policy and strategy, developmental planning, system of systems engineering, and threat reduction to help shape future space missions across the national security space enterprise. DSG is unique at Aerospace as it not only directly supports major customers, including United States Space Force, United States Space Command, Air Force Material Command, and senior leadership at the Pentagon, but also provides a broad range of services and support across the national space enterprise, maintaining vertical responsibilities with customers but also horizontal, matrixed responsibilities across the corporation.

The Enterprise Mission Infrastructure and Platform team (EMIP) supports these customers in acquiring and developing enterprise infrastructure capabilities, utilizing the latest in information system technologies, such as elastic compute clouds, containerization, microservices, real-time operating systems, and visualization frameworks, with expertise in cyber security, software architecture, software engineering, process improvement, and software development to deliver responsive, resilient, high-performance software intensive systems to our IC, DoD, and civilian customers. Some of our direct customers include Space Systems Command (SSC) Battle Management Command, Control, and Communications (BMC3), Operational Test and Training Infrastructure (OTTI), the Space Warfighting Analysis Center (SWAC), and others.

Work Model

This is a hybrid position located in Colorado Springs with customer location support at 2424 Garden of the Gods Rd. This hybrid work model requires at least 3 regular onsite workdays and teleworking flexibility as the business needs allow.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Support the Enterprise Mission Infrastructure and Platform team's customers in developing architectures, roadmaps, technical capabilities, and products that support the needs of the warfighter.
  • Lead technology investigation initiatives, work with vendors, the government, other FFRDC organizations, and various contractors to prototype, demonstrate and deliver cyber secure platform capabilities to the warfighters at several Space Force bases, customer locations in Colorado, and undisclosed mission sites.
  • Engage with commercial technology leaders in discussing product and technology roadmaps and translating those into strategic opportunities for National Security Space (NSS) Ground Enterprise.
  • Work hands on with the customer and solutions providers to prototype, design, and demonstrate cloud computing architectures and services to support the needs of our warfighters.
  • Lead innovation in the key technologies for use in ground systems from the edge to the cloud. The EMIP group performs analysis, testing demonstrations of leading platform, cloud, cyber security technologies, and works with vendors on demonstrations on behalf of the customer.
  • Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned as needed.

What You Need to be Successful - Project Engineer, Systems Engineering - Acquisition and Systems Engineering

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from accredited university in engineering or related technical subject area
  • 6 or more years of experience including experience in the years of experience in architecture for software-intensive systems and cloud computing, preferably in the space system domain.
  • Experience working with integrated, multidisciplinary, multi-organizational teams.
  • Proven ability to work in fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Excellent social skills enabling effective communication with customers, colleagues, and senior management.
  • Active Top Secret / SCI clearance with ability to obtain Special Access (SAP) and maintain clearance, issued by the US government; U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
  • Hands on experience with VMware, Red Hat or other Linux Operating Systems.
  • Ability to travel as required (approx. 10-15 %)

In addition to the above, the Sr. Project Engineer, Systems Engineering - Acquisition and Systems Engineering

requires the following:

  • 10 or more years of experience including experience in the years of experience in architecture for software-intensive systems and cloud computing, preferably in the space system domain.
  • Experience leading integrated, multidisciplinary, multi-organizational teams.
  • Cloud-based platform work such as AWS, Oracle, Google, or Microsoft Azure.
  • Involvement in complex simulation developments.
  • Proven experience senior level customers and senior leadership.

How You Can Stand Out

It would be nice if you had one or more of these:

  • Advanced academic degree in systems engineering, aerospace engineering, computer science, computer engineering, or a related engineering or scientific field
  • Experience with processes associated with a government system acquisition and lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development, integration, and test of software and/or data-intensive system architectures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in Zero-Trust architectures, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure as Code such as Ansible, Puppet, Terraform or other standards-based automation.

We offer a competitive compensation package where you'll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to our business. The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
