Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit

Position Summary
The School of Music at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Piano to start August 1, 2025. We seek an artist/teacher with experience working with students from diverse musical, social, and cultural backgrounds. The ideal candidate will be an experienced teacher and mentor of undergraduate and graduate students and will fulfill duties and responsibilities commensurate with academic positions at a leading institution.
In addition to teaching applied piano at the undergraduate and graduate levels, teaching responsibilities may include courses such as Piano Literature, Keyboard Harmony, and/or Graduate Piano Seminar. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to incorporate diverse perspectives, including non-Western musical traditions and community-based music practices, into their teaching. The position also requires engagement in regional, national, and international creative activities and research, such as prominent performances or publications, and participation in recruitment and faculty governance service activities. As a member of the School of Music faculty, the Assistant Professor of Piano will contribute to ongoing equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives in the school.
Minimum Qualifications


  • ABD in Piano Performance
  • Teaching experience in applied piano at the collegiate level
  • Significant performance experience
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership advancing equity and inclusivity by integrating diverse cultural or musical perspectives into teaching and professional/creative practice.


Preferred Qualifications


  • DMA or equivalent professional experience
  • Experience teaching related courses at the collegiate level (such as Piano Literature, Keyboard Harmony, etc.)
  • Emerging national reputation in teaching, performance, and/or scholarship
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership advancing equity and inclusivity in teaching and
  • professional/creative practice.


Other Areas of Consideration:

  • Performance experience in a variety of genres and musical styles and/or experience teaching and performing in more than one style or tradition
  • Experience in entrepreneurship and career development
  • Interest in and experience with community engagement.
