Job Summary:

The Training & Organizational Development Director is responsible for leading the training and organizational leadership development programs and initiatives for the Division of Facilities Planning & Management (FP&M), the largest non-academic unit at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

FP&M is a full-spectrum facilities management organization that builds, maintains, and operates the physical environment of the campus. With a 24/7/365 operation consisting of more than 1,200 employees, the Training & Organizational Development Director plays a central role in advancing training and professional development practices throughout the division in order to support FP&M's mission of providing excellence in facilities and services for our university community.

This position works in close collaboration with FP&M's Human Resources Director as well as other FP&M leaders to deliver appropriate training programs that support strategic business goals and operational objectives. In addition, the Training & Organizational Development Director coordinates a group of embedded technical trainers to ensure a consistent FP&M training philosophy. Finally, this position collaborates with the Office of Human Resource Learning & Talent Development team and other campus units to coordinate and develop professional development opportunities in support of the mission and strategic direction of the university.


Responsibilities:
Directs the development and coordination of organizational learning programs and associated strategies to support and enhance the knowledge and skills of all employees, including supervising staff.

  • 15% Directs strategic planning initiatives and establishes objectives for training, professional development, and organizational development operations; and establishes unit goals and objectives
  • 40% Develops, plans, and implements training and development curriculum across employment categories in alignment with strategic plans and objectives
  • 15% Conducts and evaluates needs assessments with internal and external key stakeholders to create, develop, and facilitate new training and development programs
  • 10% Serves as the unit liaison to internal and external stakeholder groups providing professional development and training information and representing the interests of the unit
  • 10% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • 5% Develops and audits the unit/program budget
  • 5% Coordinate group of imbedded department trainers to ensure a centralized FP&M training philosophy, and support the development of training skills across the division

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree
With major studies in human resources, instructional design, organizational development, or related field strongly preferred. - ATD, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP or other professional training certification a plus.


Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating employee training and/or organizational development programs, with a focus on team development and change management.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience with organizational training and talent development in higher education, facilities management, or manufacturing environment
- Understanding of adult learning and performance management theory and principles
- Strong presentation skills using various multimedia training platforms and methods
- Ability to work effectively in diverse, multilingual environments, adapting training and development strategies to match learner needs.


Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

The starting salary is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
