Provides support to the Medical Staff Service Department's functions relating to credentialing and administrative processes applicable to the organized medical staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. High school diploma or equivalent. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: EXPERIENCE: 1. Previous medical staff credentialing. CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. Assists in maintaining accurate up-to-date credentials files for all medical staff and allied health staff members. 2. Processes requests for medical staff and allied health staff application packets in appropriate manner. 3. Assists with processing initial applications by preparing correspondence to obtain primary source verification of all applicant information. 4. Receives incoming correspondence pertinent to credentialing and conducts initial review of information to determine if information obtained is complete. 5. Processes requests from outside parties such as other hospitals or managed care entities to provide certification of medical staff members' current or previous affiliations. 6. Assists with computerized data as it relates to the medical staff credentialing function working closely with the pertinent hospital department. 7. Assists with producing agendas, meeting materials and minutes for medical staff department, committee and peer review meetings as necessary. 8. Assists with scheduling classrooms and food service for monthly medical staff meetings as necessary. 9. Assists with maintaining attendance records for all medical staff meetings and continuing education conferences and producing statistical reports as necessary. 10. Assists with producing monthly on-call schedules for all medical staff specialties with on-call responsibilities. 11. Assists with the preparation of administrative reports, medical staff rosters, statistical reports, etc. as necessary. 12. Assists with arranging orientation for new medical staff and allied health members. 13. Responsible for filing of credentialing information, general correspondence, etc. in an accurate and timely manner. 14. Maintains a high level of confidentiality in all aspects of the position. 15. Assists with ordering and maintaining inventory of appropriate office supplies as necessary, 16. Acts as receptionist for the department in a professional and courteous manner. 17. Other administrative or clerical duties as requested by the Medical Staff Coordinator. Exposure to high stress and constant interruptions. 3. Possible exposure to body fluids, contagious diseases, etc. while carrying out hospital business on the patient units. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Must have the ability to perform concentrated and complex mental activity with frequent involvement in complex and highly confidential situations. 2. Must have the ability to work successfully under highly stressful conditions and must be capable of adapting to varying workloads on a constant basis. 3. Must have the ability to make sound, independent judgements, and also be able to collaborate with members of the medical staff, medical staff leaders, and other members of the hospital team in an appropriate manner. 4. Must have effective reading and comprehension skills. 5. Must have strong communication skills, written and oral.
