GENERAL FUNCTION:

Senior Underwriting Manager responsible for several underwriting teams and resources including underwriting practices for government, conventional, state bonds, and VA loans. Manage resources across several teams with an eye to the customer experience and supporting our sales partners. Develop underwriting via coaching and feedback. Ensure adherence to credit policy and investor guidelines. Ensure adherence to established underwriting quality standards. Ensure adherence to regulations and compliance rules in underwriting practice.

Elevate concerns and feedback to improve process and customer experience. Ensure consistent adherence to policy and procedures. Accountable to do the right thing for the customers and colleagues and drive behavior to ensure a positive customer experience. Operate in bank's risk appetite to achieve results via identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting risks of all types.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Manage multiple underwriting teams/resources in the mortgage company.
• Carry out/implement changes or enhancement to underwriting teams and functions. Ensure tactical resolution to support other fulfillment teams and support of our sales partners and external customers.
• Ensure applied practices are within the banks risk appetite and compliance/regulatory guidance.
• Serve as credit/underwriting expert.
• Coach and develop all team members providing constructive input and investment in employees to further careers and contributions.
• Manage and continually improve underwriting quality based on input and feedback. Reduce risk via higher quality, ensuring minimal repurchases, and buy backs.
• Provide feedback to improve and change processes to create better partnerships and take care of customers.
• Aid in load balancing and resourcing optimization to take care of the customer.
• Ensure managers are coaching and developing individuals.
• Help ensure consistency across all of underwriting.
• Help ensure procedure adherence across all of underwriting.
• Manger escalation and complex loan scenarios/issues.
• Partner with pipeline, processing, and sales managers.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides general leadership and guidance to direct and indirect reports. Creates vision for group; foster and hone leadership skills on team. Provides direction as well as timely, candid, and constructive performance feedback. Develops employees to their fullest potential and provides challenging opportunities that enhance employee career growth. Develops the appropriate talent pool to ensure adequate bench strength and succession. Ensures on going recognition and rewards for employee accomplishments. Develops strong leaders who promote process improvement, career development, diversity and other corporate initiatives.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

• Some college. Degree preferred.
• 5 - 10 years mortgage experience especially processing and underwriting standards.
• 3 - 5 years management experience.
• Knowledge of investor guidelines, standards, and practices.
• Demonstrated partnership skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• Strong PC skills.
• Sound decision making skills.

The base salary for this position is reflective of the range of salary levels for all roles within this pay grade across the US. Individual salaries within this range will vary based on factors such as role, relevant skillset, relevant experience, education and geographic location. In addition to the base salary, this role is eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan, with any such payment based upon company, line of business and/or individual performance.
