$5,000 Sign-On Bonus for External CMA Candidates, $3,000 Sign-On Bonus for External MTL Candidates UnityPoint Clinics Internal Medicine & Dermatology Moline, IL M-F 8:00a-5:00p (40 hours per week) Assist provider and other clinical staff with obtaining basic vital information preparing patient for examination, treatment and minor surgical procedures. Responsibilities
Clinical Excellence/Patient Care
- Assist provider and other clinical staff with obtaining basic vital information preparing patient for examination, treatment and minor surgical procedures.
- Demonstrates competence in the clinical skills necessary to carry out assigned job duties.
- May be required to draw and collect blood and other samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Administer ordered medical and/or vaccines.
- Responsible for tracking system for follow-up appointments related to office visits, laboratory tests and procedures to regularly follow patients monitoring disease status.
- Schedule referrals for patients with specialist or outpatient as requested by the provider. Complete appropriate forms or requisitions needed for referrals or lab testing, including appropriate CPT/ICD-10 coding.
- Provide appropriate and timely documentation in the patient's electronic health record using standardized workflows and processes.
Patient Care:
- Assist in the delivery of primary health care services and patient care management.
- Demonstrates competence in the skills necessary to carry out assigned duties by participating in competency reviews and proficiency testing on a regular basis.
- Collect and prepare blood samples using a consistent patient labeling identification system for performing routine laboratory procedures.
- Assure the reliability and safety of blood products utilizing appropriate collection and processing procedures to avoid inadequate specimens.
- Communicate results in a timely manner to appropriate health care personnel.
- Demonstrate an understanding of established policies and procedures included in Procedure Manual, Lab Manual, Safety Manual, Hazardous Material Manual, Fingerstick Protocol, and CLIA regulations or policies from other laboratory regulatory agencies such as CAP and COLA.
- Assume responsibility and accountability for the quality and quantity of service delivered.
- Perform phlebotomy duties, assist other employees with difficult phlebotomy situations, interact with patients, families, visitors and staff in a positive manner.
- Collect and prepare specimens and perform laboratory procedures used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
- Record and document laboratory results for each performed test. Retain records for the required length of time in a secure location.
- Clean and sterilize laboratory equipment, glassware, instruments and work area according to policy and procedure.
- Evaluate quality control within laboratory using standard laboratory test and measurement controls.
- Assist provider and other clinical staff with obtaining basic vital information preparing patient for examination as directed by Clinic Administrator and/or Director after completion of Vital Signs Competency. Does not include immunizations, dispensing of medication, or assisting in procedures.
Qualifications
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited program for Medical Assistants.
- High school diploma required if work is performed in a moderately complex CLIA lab.
- Graduate of an accredited program for Medical Laboratory Technicians.
- Two years of previous clinical experience in a medical laboratory preferred.
- New graduate: Obtain Technician Certification (MLT) within one (1) year of employment. Certifying Agencies include but are not limited to the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification (BOC), American Medical Technologist (AMT) Certification, and American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB) Board of Registry (ABOR) or U.S Military Laboratory Training Program.
Experience:
- Previous clinical experience in a medical office preferred.
- Computer data entry experience.
License(s)/Certification(s):
- Current CME certification for Certified Medical Assistant and AAMA, NCCT, RMA or NHA certification.
- BLS and Mandatory Reporter certification.
- Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
