Overview Functions as a Pharmacy Technician as defined by the Iowa Board of Pharmacy Examiners. Assists pharmacists in entering prescription orders, preparing and distributing sterile and non-sterile drug products and maintaining accurate medication records. Visit us at UnityPoint.org/careers to hear more from our team members about why UnityPoint Health is a great place to work. https://dayinthelife.unitypoint.org/ Responsibilities Professionalism * Fosters a positive work culture centered on honesty, openness, and integrity * Builds and maintains relationships with members of the health care team by placing an emphasis on open communication * Inspires and motivates members of the health care team by building department morale * Strives to ensure the success of the team as a whole over personal success * Effectively balances the responsibilities of the team and individual team members * Demonstrates a commitment to the development and achievement of common goals within the department and hospital system * Integrates and demonstrates CORE values and Expectations for Personal and Service Excellence to guide professional behaviors, while adhering to the policies and procedures of UPH-GRMC * Demonstrates a commitment to the improvement of patient care, customer satisfaction, and team member performance * Encourages and provides constructive feedback to identify opportunities for improvement within the department * Prepares and distributes medication products to fulfill medication orders * Accurately compounds sterile and non-sterile products, including chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition, in accordance with facility, state, and federal laws and regulations * Answers the telephone, identifying self and department and directing calls to appropriate personnel in a professional and courteous manner * Ensures appropriate and adequate medication inventory by restocking, rotating stock, removing expired medications, packaging medications, and ordering supplies * Accurately performs data entry for patient billing * Ensures proper medication storage * Maintains a neat, clean, orderly, and secure department * Ensures the appropriate preparation and dispersal of medications in accordance with facility, state, and national laws and regulations * Assures compliance with HIPAA, DNV, OSHA and other state and federal regulations guiding healthcare * Adheres to policies and procedures of UPH-GRMC * Prioritizes the importance of preventing errors, accidents, and infections within the workplace and reports potential or actual concerns immediately * Completes all competency and skills assessment requirements * Participates in and completes pharmacy technician orientation Qualifications Education: * Must be high school graduate or equivalent * Must be able to proficiently read, write and speak English * Must have strong math skills, with some basic algebra * Some college training preferred * One year of experience in a hospital or retail pharmacy desirable * Experience in a health care facility desirable * Proficient in using computer systems * Must be registered as a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacist-Intern, if enrolled in a college of pharmacy, with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy within 30 days of employment * Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or other national certification provider must be obtained within 12 months of hire. Technicians must be registered as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee as they work to obtain national certification as a Pharmacy Technician * Must maintain a current Iowa Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Trainee Registration and be in good standing with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy Examiners |
