Job Summary

The Student Services Analyst ensures the integrity and effectiveness of the financial aid process, with a focus on financial aid literacy, default prevention, and detecting suspicious activity. This role develops, implements and presents in person Loan and Exit Counseling, educational programs on responsible borrowing, and repayment options. The Analyst collaborates with stakeholders to prevent loan defaults and applies strategies to identify and address suspicious activity. Additional duties include supporting day-to-day office operations, providing training, and resolving escalated student issues. The Analyst also handles high-level professional judgment appeals, verifies student enrollment for fund disbursement, analyzes program data, and ensures compliance with financial aid regulations.

Essential Functions

35% Financial Literacy and Default Prevention
  • Develop, deliver, and oversee comprehensive financial literacy programs focused on responsible borrowing, and loan repayment strategies.
  • Implement outreach initiatives to prevent loan defaults, provide one-on-one counseling (including Entrance and Exit Loan Counseling), and advise students on repayment options.
  • Collaborate with campus departments and external organizations to expand financial education efforts.
  • Track and analyze data to evaluate the effectiveness of default and literacy programs in achieving college goals.
  • Researches program opportunities, industry standards, trends, best practices and emerging technologies and makes recommendations for implementation
  • Provide customer service through one-on-one support, presentations, email, virtual meetings, and phone calls.

30% Technical Support
  • Serve as a subject matter expert, applying professional judgment to financial aid applications, determining eligibility, and ensuring compliance with institutional and federal regulations.
  • Provide technical support and training to staff on financial aid processes, policies, and systems, with a focus on compliance and fraud prevention strategies.
  • Stay updated on federal regulations and communicate changes to staff, fostering a compliance-driven culture within the office.
  • Collaborate with the financial aid team to streamline processes, resolve aid processing issues, and ensure timely, accurate aid disbursement.
  • Coordinate, organize, and supervise staff work when assigned, ensuring deadlines are met and work is evaluated and prioritized effectively.

25% Fraud Prevention
  • Develop and implement strategies to detect, investigate, and prevent suspicious activity related to financial aid.
  • Monitor financial aid processes to ensure compliance with federal regulations and internal policies.
  • Review program requirements and evaluate criteria to determine student eligibility, ensuring compliance with regulations and policies.

10% Conduct research on Title IV federal guidance and industry best practices to suggest and implement new strategies for the college and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and two years of student services or college teaching experience, or experience coordinating, administering, planning, or evaluating programs.

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Desired Qualifications
  1. Three (3) or more years of recent (within the last 36 months) experience in student services at a higher education institution
  2. Two (2) years (within the last 24 months) in a financial aid office, interpreting financial aid policies and procedures
  3. Three (3) years of experience conducting one-on-one counseling, presentations, and/or workshops on complex financial aid concepts to students, staff, and/or external stakeholders.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of student loan regulations, repayment plans, and default prevention strategies.Demonstrated knowledge of student loan regulations, repayment plans, and default prevention strategies.
  5. Proficiency in using financial aid management systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, Banner, or similar software) to process applications, disburse funds, and manage student records..

Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, sharing knowledge and expertise with colleagues and collaborating across departments to improve financial aid processes and student outcomes.

Special Working Conditions
  • Applicants must be in good standing with all U.S. Department of Education Federal Student Aid programs and eligible to access federal websites required to perform job duties.
