QBI African Initiatives Partnerships Coordinator
Quantitative Biosciences Institute (QBI) Job Summary UCSF's Quantitative Biosciences Institute (QBI) has launched an African empowerment initiative by hosting the first West African International Symposium on Infectious Diseases and workshops in Sierra Leone during the summer of 2024. Building on the success of these events, QBI aims to expand this program to empower young African scientists across the continent.
QBI seeks a dynamic professional to lead resource generation, external donor and NGO partnerships, grant writing, and the management and coordination of this growing program. The Partnerships Coordinator will collaborate with QBI leadership to identify the next host country, establish strategic partnerships, engage with donors, and lead planning for future workshops and symposia.
This role includes overseeing program development, cultivating relationships with academic institutions, industry, and nonprofits in the US and abroad, and spearheading funding efforts to ensure the program's long-term sustainability. The Partnerships Coordinator will serve as the primary liaison with partners and collaborators, working closely with the QBI Director, COO, UCSF entities, and other stakeholders.
Leads resource mobilization efforts for the African Initiatives Program at QBI by identifying and pursuing strategic partnership opportunities, preparing high-quality funding proposals, and managing relationships with major funders like Gilead, Gates, and NIH. Oversees project management for symposiums and workshops, ensuring seamless collaboration among stakeholders, compliance with donor requirements, and the delivery of impactful programs. Drives program development by shaping frameworks, fostering mentorship opportunities for African scientists, and consolidating efforts across UCSF entities to enhance collaboration in big data and AI initiatives.
***NOTE: This a fully onsite Full-time Contract role for one year. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $72,000 - $116,700 (Annual Rate). About the existing QBI Team
The QBI team responsibilities range from running the operations of the institute to managing specific science projects and programs. We have people who focus on advocacy, industry relations, international collaborations and the coordination of matching different labs with financial opportunities to work together. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
- Minimum 3 years of related experience.
- Background in Global Health.
- Extensive experience working in sub-Saharan African context implementing organizations, clinics or programs
- Strong understanding of nuances across African nations and cultures
- Strong skills in analyzing, researching and synthesizing large amounts of data for preparing sound and relevant proposals / analyses.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
- Analytical / problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's, MD, or PhD Degree.
- Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
- Strong policy analysis techniques.
