Refugee Housing Subject Matter Expert

Provide strategic guidance, technical expertise, and operational support for housing programs serving refugee populations. This role will play a key part in the design, implementation, and evaluation of housing solutions that are safe, sustainable, culturally appropriate, and aligned with local and federal regulations. Collaborate with local housing authorities, landlord, and property management companies in identifying housing opportunities for Afghan community members across the state of Texas. Foster communications with other key stakeholders. Maintain, coordinate, and track project information, key communications, and decisions made by stakeholders. Act as point of contact for city teams as they identify housing needs.

Refugee Housing Subject Matter Expert Responsibilities Include:



  • Provide expert knowledge on refugee housing policies, best practices, and emerging trends.
  • Support program design and implementation, offering guidance on housing options, barriers, and provide solutions.
  • Conduct needs assessments and gap analyses to identify housing barriers and opportunities for refugee populations.
  • Advise on landlord engagement strategies, housing navigation, and affordable housing access.
  • Develop and deliver training for staff and partners on refugee housing topics.
  • Collaborate with state, and local stakeholders to ensure housing opportunities support clients' self-sufficiency.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned



Refugee Housing Subject Matter Expert Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:



  • Bachelor's degree in social work, public policy, urban planning, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in refugee resettlement, housing services, or homelessness prevention.
  • Deep understanding of refugee housing challenges, HUD regulations, and local housing systems.
  • Proven ability to think innovatively and implement housing solutions for marginalized populations.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience working with diverse and multilingual communities.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed care and culturally responsive practices.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively via oral and written mediums.
  • Skilled at cultivating contacts with local stakeholders, housing authorities, landlords and property management entities systems at the local and state level.
  • Ability to exercise good organizational and time management skills and the capability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of housing regulations, including affordable housing requirements and access processes.
  • Proficient in utilizing Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication skills in the oral, visual, and written mediums.
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal
