What to Expect

We are looking for a Reliability Engineer with strong thermo-mechanical-electricalexpertiseto join our reliability team. In this role, you will play a key part in designing reliability into our groundbreaking vision hardware systems, including camera cleaning mechanisms, condensation management, pneumatic systems, shutter assemblies, and supporting enclosures, that are critical toautonomy, sensor availability, andvehicle performance.

The level of this position will be determined at the time of the interview.

What You'll Do
  • Apply solid knowledge of reliability methods and multi-domain (thermo-mechanical-electrical) engineering to design accelerated test plans for design validation and demonstration of reliability growth across vision hardware systems
  • Analyze field usage and environmental conditions, including temperature, humidity, UV, dust, salt, mud, and chemical exposure, to optimize design requirement setting, durability specifications, and test methods
  • Facilitate and lead design FMEA sessions to assess product risks across mechanical, thermal, electrical, and fluid system domains; deep dive into the governing physics of failure; determine validation test plans; and drive reliable design choices
  • Work with design, test, manufacturing quality, supplier quality, and service engineering to identify root causes and drive resolution for failures originating in testing and in the field
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical design, optical engineering, thermal engineering, and controls/software teams to ensure reliability is designed into emerging architectures
  • Partner with internal industrialization engineers and multi-country suppliers to generate process validation test plans, conduct supplier reliability qualification, and drive root cause corrective action for production process issues
  • Perform reliability modeling, life data analysis, and quantitative predictions to inform design decisions and service life/warranty forecasting
  • Provide reliability design guidelines and apply reliability lessons learned to enable continuous improvement across vision hardware programs

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Material Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics, or equivalent experience
  • 4+ years of experience working on multi-domain electromechanical systems, such as actuation systems, cleaning mechanisms, pneumatic or fluid delivery systems, thermal management systems, shutter or closure mechanisms, or sealed enclosure assemblies, in automotive, aerospace, medical devices, industrial automation, or related high-reliability applications
  • Proficiency in understanding the failure modes and degradation mechanisms of thermo-mechanical-electrical systems, including mechanisms subject to wear, fatigue, sealing degradation, corrosion, condensation, and environmental aging
  • Strong experience in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, circuit diagrams, wiring diagrams, and component layouts to identify reliability risks
  • Understanding of Highly Accelerated testing methods and governing equations for different types of acceleration models, and strong experience with burn-in testing, Environmental Stress Screening (ESS), and Ongoing Reliability Testing (ORT)
  • Working knowledge of applied statistics and experience with statistical software such as JMP
  • Familiarity with Reliability software such as ReliaSoft Synthesis Platform, including Weibull++
  • Experience with failure analysis techniques such as optical microscopy, SEM, EDX, CT, CSAM, FTIR, X-ray, cross-sectioning, and mechanical failure characterization methods (e.g., fractography, wear analysis, seal and gasket degradation assessment)
  • Self-driven and focused individual with a proven ability to manage parallel tasks effectively, with a desire to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven ability to remain engaged, proactive, and positive in tough circumstances
