For more than55 years, Family Health Centers of San Diego's (FHCSD) mission has been to provide caring, affordable, high-quality health care and supportive services to everyone, with a special commitment to uninsured, low-income and medically underserved persons.

FHCSD is one of the top 10 largest federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) in the country. We operate more than 90 sites across San Diego County, including 29 primary care clinics, 23 behavioral health facilities, 10 physical rehabilitation clinics, nine dental clinics, five vision clinics, four outpatient substance use treatment programs, three mobile medical units, two mobile counseling centers, two urgent care centers, and a pharmacy.

Our staff provides care to over 227,000 patients each year, of whom 91% are low-income and 29% are uninsured. FHCSD provides care to all. Services include, but are not limited to adult care, chronic disease management, pediatrics, comprehensive women's care including obstetrics, dental, vision, case management, physical rehabilitation, speech therapy for children, vaccinations, infectious diseases, behavioral health, substance use counseling and a host of specialty services including cardiology, podiatry, endocrinology, dermatology, among others. FHCSD also offers supportive services to those who are unsheltered and in need of intensive case management.

The breadth of our clinic locations, services and programs has grown over the last five decades, making us the largest community clinic provider of health care to the uninsured in the county and one of the top 10 largest community clinic organizations in the nation. We are also the largest health care safety-net provider, largest school-based health care provider and the largest mental health provider in the San Diego region.

Family health Centers of San Diego is looking for a Dietary Cook - PACE to work under supervision and guidance of the Manager, PACE Nutrition and Food Service, prepares and packages PACE participants' meals.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare meals in compliance with standardized recipes and dietary guidelines.
  • Ensure meals meet dietary and portion restrictions as determined by Dietitian and/or Manager, PACE Nutrition and Food Service.
  • Maintain accurate account of frozen meal inventory, food inventory, food orders, food temperatures, and cooling temperatures. Inform manager of needed items.
  • Package and pack meals in a timely manner to maintain correct holding temperatures.
  • Maintain sanitation practices within regulatory and quality assurance standards.
  • Follow food safety guidelines to promote safe food handling, which include, but are not limited to the practice personal hygiene, hand washing, and wearing caps or hair nets.
  • Clean and wash equipment used in cooking.
  • Maintain daily, weekly, monthly, and annual cleaning schedule of kitchen operation area.
  • Report any damaged equipment to Manager.
  • Work in collaboration with other staff within the department to provide a positive participant experience.
  • Adhere to all Family Health Center for Older Adults PACE Policies and Procedures.
  • Observes HIPAA guidelines.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all company procedures, results, and information about participants, clients, or families.
  • Ensure compliance with all state, federal and local regulations.
  • Maintain a safe working environment.
  • Participates in continuing education classes and any required staff and training meetings.
  • Participates in and supports Quality Improvement Initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the skills, knowledge, and ability to perform the essential job duties, and which meets any required state or federal certification requirements.
  • Food Handler's permit required.
  • 1-year related experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of nutrition, portion control, food cost control, and working within a budget preferred.
  • Knowledge and ability to plan meals in accordance to established guidelines and standardized recipes required
  • Experience preparing a large volume of delicious, attractive, and nutritious meals preferred.
  • Ability to communicate with and relate to a diverse staff and clients in a courteous and professional manner.

If you are hired at Family Health Centers of San Diego, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, jurisdictional requirements, skills, education, and/or experience. In addition to these factors - we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is what we reasonably expect to pay for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth.
