DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Security Officer 1, you will patrol the Gino J. Merli Veterans' Center and protect our campus from fire, theft, trespass, and other hazards. You will patrol grounds by car or by foot, check parking areas and door locks, and make sure lights are on or off as needed. You will conduct searches of vehicles and personal property under suspicious circumstances, assist staff in locating and returning missing residents, and work cooperatively with police. This role requires the using keen observation skills and effective communication to conduct investigations, interview victims, and respond promptly to emergency calls. In addition, you will answer telephone calls and assist visitors, deliver medicine and supplies from building to building, and operate surveillance equipment.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Part-time employment, 20 hours per week
  • Work hours will be determined between the following two schedules:
    • Monday 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Saturday and Sunday 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM
    • Friday and Saturday 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM, Sunday 11:00 PM to 3:00 AM
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Necessary Special Requirement:

  • You must be in possession of a valid Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle operator's license.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Willingness to work in Lackawanna County

  • Prior experience in the security field in the following areas: Patrol grounds and buildings, check for violations of fire and safety rules and regulations, check locks/lights of buildings or offices, answer phone calls related to security concerns/emergencies, assist and offer customer service to visitors/public, approach unauthorized persons to prevent loitering, assist with police investigations, experience working with fire/safety panels, ability to address alarms and reset trouble codes, experience working with disaster and emergency preparedness plans, experience operating surveillance/security equipment and monitors

  • Prior work experience in a nursing-type facility searching for missing residents or assisting residents during an emergency

  • Proficient with the use of Microsoft programs at the basic level

Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
