Job Summary

The CNC Setup Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating multi-axis CNC mills and lathes to produce precision aerospace components that meet tight tolerances and quality specifications. This role involves performing first-piece inspections, making tooling adjustments, and ensuring machines run safely and efficiently in a low-volume, high-mix environment. The position requires strong technical skills, blueprint reading, and GD&T knowledge. This is a true machinist role, not a button-pusher position. Job Responsibilities

  • Set up multi-axis CNC mills and lathes, including tooling, fixtures, offsets, and loading programs
  • Operate CNC machines after setup to produce precision parts according to specifications
  • Perform first-piece inspections and in-process quality checks using micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools
  • Read and interpret blueprints and GD&T callouts to ensure accurate part production
  • Make minor adjustments to tooling or offsets to maintain part quality
  • Complete all required quality documentation and log hours in the system
  • Troubleshoot basic machine and quality issues and collaborate with production and quality teams to resolve problems
  • Follow safety policies and maintain 5S standards in the work area
  • Maintain steel-toe or composite safety shoes and adhere to all PPE requirements

Job Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience setting up and operating CNC mills and lathes in a precision machining environment
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and GD&T specifications
  • Experience performing first-piece inspections and using precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators)
  • Ability to make tooling changes when required
  • Familiarity with FANUC controls preferred
  • Basic computer skills for logging hours and documenting quality issues
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards
  • Ability to work in a low-volume, high-mix aerospace environment
  • Must provide steel-toe or composite safety shoes

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training in CNC machining preferred

Work Experience

  • 2+ years of CNC setup and operation experience in aerospace or precision machining environments
