SUMMARY: The Deposit Product Risk & Control Manager is responsible for overseeing the risk and control environment for BankUnited's deposit products. This role ensures that all deposit-related activities are executed in alignment with regulatory expectations, internal policies, and enterprise risk frameworks. The individual serves as the first line of defense, partnering closely with product, operations, compliance, and technology teams to identify, assess, monitor, and mitigate risks across the deposit portfolio.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties and special projects may be assigned.
- Risk Identification & Assessment
- Identify and assess risks across deposit products, including operational, compliance, reputational, and strategic risks.
- Lead and document Risk Control Self-Assessments (RCSA) for deposit products.
- Governance & Reporting
- Maintain documentation of risk control processes, methodologies, and outcomes.
- Coordinate monthly operational risk reporting and analytics.
- Develop and maintain accurate, complete, and exception-based reports for effective monitoring of system activities and user access.
- Ensure timely detection and escalation of unauthorized or anomalous transactions.
- Partner with IT and business lines to continuously improve reporting capabilities.
- Regulatory & Audit Engagement
- Act as the primary liaison with second and third lines of defense (ERM, Compliance, Internal Audit).
- Support regulatory exams and internal audits by providing documentation and evidence.
- Incorporate feedback from oversight functions into control enhancements.
- Lead investigation and resolution of audit findings, including interest calculation discrepancies, access control weaknesses, and process gaps.
- Develop, implement, and monitor action plans to address audit recommendations, ensuring timely closure and sustainable controls.
- Prepare and maintain documentation of remediation activities and provide regular updates to management and auditors.
- Own and track audit findings through closure, ensuring sustainable remediation and ongoing compliance.
- Product Oversight & Strategic Alignment
- Collaborate with product managers to ensure new deposit products meet risk and control standards.
- Participate in product development and change management initiatives.
- Influence roadmap decisions through risk-based insights and advisory input.
- System Ownership & Governance
- Serve as the accountable system owner for deposit product subsystems (e.g., Signature Transaction and Time), ensuring centralized oversight, risk management, and documentation.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of system functionality, configurations, and downstream impacts.
- Act as primary liaison with IT, Operations, Compliance, Finance, and external vendors for issue resolution and system changes.
- Policy & Procedure Management
- Establish, document, and maintain written procedures for deposit product setup, change management, and approval workflows, ensuring compliance with audit recommendations.
- Create, update, and communicate policies and procedures related to deposit product risk and control, including roles, responsibilities, and approval requirements.
- Lead periodic reviews and training for relevant stakeholders on updated policies, procedures, and controls.
- Adheres to and complies with applicable, federal and state laws, regulations and guidance, including those related to anti-money laundering (i.e. Bank Secrecy Act, US PATRIOT Act, etc.).
- Adheres to Bank policies and procedures and completes required training.
- Identifies and reports suspicious activity.
EDUCATION
Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business Administration, Risk Management, or related field
EXPERIENCE
- 5+ years of experience in risk management, internal controls, or deposit operations in financial services in Finance, Business Administration, Risk Management, or related fields
- Experience with core banking systems (eg, Fiserv Signature) and deposit product lifecycle management
- Experience with access management, change management, and process documentation
- Experience designing and implementing sustainable audit remediation plans
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Strong understanding of internal controls, audit processes, and regulatory requirements for deposit products.
- Demonstrated ability to remediate audit findings and implement sustainable controls.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain policies, procedures, and training materials for risk/control environments.
- Strong understanding of banking regulations (OCC, FDIC, FRB) and risk frameworks (NIST, COSO).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and GRC tools.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills.
