Job Description
Albany Engineered Composites (AEC) designs, develops, and manufactures advanced composite components in order to help our customers push the frontiers of innovation. This position is accountable for the development and implementation of the manufacturing process for automated fiber placement parts for aerospace structural applications.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist with diagnosing and troubleshooting equipment related issues pertaining to advance fiber placement (AFP) machines. Work with machine manufactures to expedite repairs to avoid schedule impact.
- Define plans to support; equipment qualification, total productive maintenance (TPM), and spare parts.
- Initiate process improvements focused on cycle time reduction, machine efficiency, and defect reduction.
- Generate and maintain equipment, Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis PFMEA, and risk matrix.
- Provide reliability and maintainability input to the design of new projects, standardization and selection of equipment/parts and components.
- Assist with the execution and control of test plans.
- Generate and maintain work instructions pertaining to parts fabricated using AFP processes.
- Disposition nonconformances related to parts fabricated using AFP processes
Working Conditions
Indoor production environment, duties performed indoors, adequate lighting and comfortable temperatures. Frequent exposure to moderate noise and machinery with mechanical moving parts. Ability to work 24/7 schedule and be available as business situations require. Travel may be required

Shift Information
Monday - Friday 7am-330pm
Experience/Education/Skills
- 3 years related experience with Engineering Degree
- Experience in robotics and or multi-axis equipment.
- Establish project budgets and schedules.
- Assist in the development of autonomous maintenance processes in collaboration with equipment engineers and reliability operators.
- Generate equipment specifications and assemble equipment work packages.
- Familiarity with the mechanics of AFP machines including; segmented compaction rollers, bi-directional tensioners, re-direct roller systems, individual tow cut-clamp-restart (CCR), and laser based heating methods.
- Experience with automated fiber placement machines, 3-axis positioners, rotating mandrel systems, fiber delivery systems, laminators, or similar.
- Analyze the predictive maintenance data and initiate follow-on corrective work.
- Optimization of composite manufacturing processes that utilize Carbon and Glass Fibers, Thermoset Epoxies (Autoclave & Out of Autoclave) and BMI material.
- Knowledge of root cause / corrective action processes and techniques.
- Functional knowledge of PFMEA.
- Working knowledge of SAP a plus.
- Experience with GD&T.
- Experience using SPC to monitor and improve processes.
- Experience in working with aerospace specifications and requirements.
- Assists in developing proposals including time studies, machine type recommendations, and fixture and tooling requirements.
- Must be Microsoft Office Suite proficient.
