HJF is seeking aSpeech Language Pathologist IIto provide speech and language services in the evaluation, treatment, consultation, and management of patients. This role will implement individualized and group cognitive rehabilitation plans within our outpatient clinic and IOP. Additionally, this role may support research studies providing and evaluating individualized treatment to determine its effectiveness in decreasing everyday cognitive complaints among patients with a history of issues (i.e. mild Traumatic Brain Injury (mTBI) and persistent cognitive symptoms).

This position will be in support ofthe Ft. Hood/ Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center Intrepid Spirit Center, supporting the Neurofeedback and Cognitive Rehabilitation Programs located on the campus of Ft. Hood. The Ft. Hood/ Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center Intrepid Spirit Center is a DoD institute dedicated to providing cutting-edge evaluation, treatment, and research for service members dealing with complex interactions of mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) and psychological health (PH) conditions.

  • Assess/Diagnose/Treat: Provide counseling and guidance and language development therapy. Select, administer, score, and interpret diagnostic tests as necessary to detect any type of speech, language, communication, voice, or swallowing disorder. Develop and implement individualized plan, in accordance with Institutional Research Board protocol, for assigned patients to meet individual needs, interests and abilities. Evaluate and monitor patients. Instruct patients to monitor their own speech and provide ways to practice new skills.
  • Communicate/Modify/Review Treatments: Conduct follow-up assessments after initial treatment. Review treatment plans and assess individual performance to modify, change, or write new programs. Communicate diagnosis, test results and available treatments in terms that clients and their families can understand. Educate patients/families. Recommends treatment working closely with Psychologist.
  • Study Administration: Document treatment session data. Maintain records as required by law, establishment's policy and administrative regulations. Work with other research team members to communicate study scheduling, results of evaluations, treatment progress, discharge information, and data transfer procedures. Identify and notify appropriate parties of clinical problems in study patients.
  • Professional Development & Support: Attend training for delivering study treatment. Attend, participate, and may lead interdisciplinary meetings. May contribute to publications such as manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and presentations. For professional growth, keep abreast of current literature in the field of speech language pathology (i.e. as it relates to cognitive and concomitant speech deficits resulting from brain injury). Maintain a high level of professional competence including attending conferences and participating in other activities for professional growth.
  • Assists with data collection, data analysis, and interpretation of research protocol.
  • Assist with writing protocol and reports.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for the role.

Education and Experience

  • Master's Degree (MA, MS, MCD) in Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of cognitive rehabilitation and Traumatic Brain Injury strongly preferred.
  • Strong Analytical/Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the speech/swallowing mechanisms, speech and language development, various assessment tools, evaluation and treatment protocols and therapeutic techniques and procedures/techniques necessary for performing research tasks.
  • Strong listening skills: To help listen to concerns and symptoms of patients to help in deciding the appropriate course of treatment.
  • Excellent communication skills including ability to communicate diagnosis, test results and available treatments in terms that patients and their families can understand.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team of providers and study team members.
  • Attention to detail. Ability to maintain accurate records in compliance with federal regulations.
  • Critical thinking skills to adjust treatment plans as required and identifying alternatives.
  • This position requires that you obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.

Physical Capabilities

  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP).

Compensation

  • The annual salary range for this position is $64,200-$100,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
