Aquatic Transgenic Production Technician - 137594

Under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI), the Aquatic Transgenic Production Technician will perform essential, standardized, and high-volume technical procedures critical for the laboratory's transgenic research project. Responsibilities will include daily care and maintenance of marine invertebrate colonies (encompassing all aspects of animal husbandry and operation of recirculating aquatic systems) and executing daily embryo injection and rearing activities (requiring established technical skill, exceptional diligence, and accuracy to maintain distinct genetic lines).

• Graduation from high school or a General Education Diploma and two years of laboratory experience or two years of college including courses in the natural, physical or social sciences and one year of laboratory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Experience in operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting a recirculating aquatic system (RAS) (freshwater or marine), including all filtration, mechanical components, and water chemistry regulation.

• Experience in the long-term culture and maintenance of adult aquatic organisms (invertebrates or vertebrates).

• Experience in collecting, handling, culturing, and microinjecting embryos of any animal species (e.g., Xenopus, Zebrafish, Drosophila, or invertebrates).

• Ability to work regularly with seawater and routinely lift and move materials, equipment, or water containers weighing up to 50 lbs.

• Experience in basic molecular biology support tasks, such as bacterial culture, media preparation, and preparing common reagents (buffers, stocks) with high precision.

• Excellent observational skills and attention to detail are required to accurately assess animal health, detect subtle changes in water quality, and monitor embryo development.

• Excellent organizational and documentation skills necessary to track complex genetic and breeding lines and maintain system logs (e.g., Excel/Google Sheets proficiency).

• Demonstrated ability to interact using tact and diplomacy with diverse personalities including academic, staff, student, and volunteer employees and institutions/organizations. Ability to effectively communicate and interact with a variety of people from the public to governmental agencies.

• Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on background check results.

• The live-animal nature of this research may require work outside regular business hours, including evenings and weekends. Flexible scheduling is offered to accommodate these requirements.
