Position Summary:

The Accounting Manager directs and supports key financial operations tied to government contracts and grants. This includes overseeing financial transactions, expenditure tracking, client and vendor payments, travel processes, and property inventory management. The Accounting Manager supervises accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, ensures compliance with funding requirements, and supports strategic financial decision-making for the agency.

Pay Range: $90,000 - $100,000 annually.

Requirements

Essential Duties

* Oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger, financial transactions, AP, and AR functions.

* Supervise and mentor Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable staff, ensuring accurate and timely processing of invoices, payments, deposits, and reconciliations.

* Review invoice payables for accuracy, coding, adequate documentation, contract compliance, and proper approvals before processing.

* Act as a backup for AP and AR processing during staff absences or peak workload periods.

* Provide support to the Controller with financial oversight, reporting, analysis, and month-end and year-end close activities.

* Review, approve, and reconcile expenditures tied to government contracts and grants.

* Monitor budgets and track actual expenditures to ensure compliance with grant, contract, and agency requirements.

* Oversee client and vendor payments, reimbursement processes, and travel-related financial transactions.

* Manage property inventory controls and ensure proper documentation and reporting in accordance with funding requirements.

* Prepare, review, or support budget modifications, financial reports, and supporting schedules for internal and external stakeholders.

* Assist with audit preparation and coordinate responses to auditors for federal, state, local, and grant-specific reviews.

* Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and contract regulations, internal controls, and accounting policies.

* Recommend and help implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and strengthen internal control systems.

* Work closely with the Controller for all reporting and regulatory compliance requirements.

* Perform other accounting-related duties as needed to ensure smooth financial operations.

Minimum Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

* Minimum 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit organization, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and grant-related financial activities.

* At least 2 years of supervisory or lead experience in accounting or finance.

* Solid understanding of nonprofit GAAP, fund accounting, and restricted/unrestricted fund management.

* Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced nonprofit environment.

Additional Requirements:

* Ability to work independently and respond to agency fiscal needs.

* Ability to interact with various agency, vendor and customer personnel in a professional, positive and cordial manner. Must demonstrate competency with interpersonal skills.

* Must be able to engage with staff at all levels of the agency and exercise sound judgement.

* Position requires strong computer and technology skills, including knowledge of accounting software and Excel (Blackbaud , Financial Edge experience preferred)

* Must possess a valid, unrestricted California Driver's License and maintain current vehicle insurance.
