This position is a shared position between the Basic Sciences Administrative Cluster (BSAC) -80%- and Vice Dean for Basic Sciences (VDBS) -20%. The BSAC position will serve on the Department's Finance Team and will provide financial and analytical support for purposes of strategic financial and budgetary planning and reporting as well as other projects; faculty discretionary and foundation funds; gifts, endowments, and contracts. Serves as the as the backup for core and research support facilities' financial activities and invoicing; and accounting for day-to-day activities under direction of the CAO and Finance Manager. In addition, the incumbent will support Finance Manager with preparing financial reports to the Chair, CAO, and Dean's office. This position requires an in-depth knowledge of University, campus and UCDH fiscal and accounting policies, procedures, practices and organization. As assigned, Analyst takes the lead in managing all aspects of department-wide projects and events as directed by the Chair, Chief Administrative Officer and Finance Manager. Assists with the completion of department-wide functions including the tracking of revenue and expenses, updating reports monthly or quarterly. Finance Analyst primary functions includes: Accounts Payable review, core facility billing, Travel and Entertainment expense reimbursements, Purchasing (back-up) via Aggie Enterprise or P Card, posting transactions in the PPM, assisting with the preparation of monthly financial reports, UCPATH/COGNOS payroll expense transactions for department's payroll posting (including contracts and grants), timeliness and compliance with Department, School of Medicine, and UC Policies and Procedures and Agency regulations. In the VDBS portion of the role, the Financial Analyst supports the financial and operational functions of the VDBS office, assisting in the development and implementation of short- and long-term strategic financial plans as directed by Vice Deans, directors, senior leadership, and both internal and external stakeholders. The incumbent provides budgetary tracking, reporting, and logistical coordination for educational outreach and special events organized and/or supported by the VDBS office. This includes collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure fiscal compliance and financial operation accuracy. Department Overview The School of Medicine Basic Sciences Administrative cluster provides administrative support to three separate and distinct Basic Science departments: the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine, the Department of Cell Biology & Human Anatomy, and the Department of Physiology & Membrane Biology. The mission of these departments is to conduct innovative research, engage in high-level service, and provide excellent educational opportunities and mentoring to students, postdoctoral fellows, and residents.
