Overview

Orrick currently has an excellent opportunity for a Legal Solutions Architect. This position could be based in any of our U.S. offices and consideration given for 100% remote US locations.


Responsibilities

The Legal Solutions Architect will support innovation projects throughout the firm by developing and implementing new solutions using various technologies and custom development, demoing and piloting other technologies to make recommendations for project management, process improvement, and adoption at the firm. The Legal Solutions Architect will be expected to understand lawyer and staff workflows and firm technologies at an expert level, and be able to recommend best practices that will enable all personnel to work as efficiently as possible. The Legal Solutions Architect will work independently and cross-functionally on a broad range of projects, including but not limited to, developing custom-built solutions, data visualization dashboards, collaboration dashboards, and document and workflow process automation.

Solution Architecture & Design.

  • Define, design, and prototype technology solutions that streamline legal processes, drawing on both low-code/no-code and pro-code approaches depending on the complexity and scalability needs.

Workflow & Automation.

  • Partner with practice groups and different departments to analyze existing workflows, identify automation opportunities, and design streamlined digital processes that integrate across Microsoft 365, Azure, and other platforms.

Data & Insight Enablement.

  • Architect systems that turn data into insight - modeling data flows, structuring information, and building dashboards that support client reporting, operational metrics, and business intelligence.

Integration & Platform Development.

  • Design integration strategies connecting firm systems through APIs, connectors, and authentication flows to create cohesive, user-friendly experiences.

AI & Emerging Technology Pilots.

  • Evaluate and test emerging technologies to support the firm on tech strategy, including ROI and implementation feasibility.

Collaboration, Training & Change Management.

  • Engage cross-functionally with lawyers, staff, and clients to promote innovation, lead demos of solutions built, and help foster adoption of new tools and processes.
  • Collaborate with other technical teams and resources across the firm to ensure strategy and tech stack alignment.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record that includes creative problem solving, workflow analysis, and development of best practices. The selected candidate should also possess:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 3-7 years of experience designing or building technology solutions in a professional-services or enterprise environment.
  • Demonstrated success delivering end-to-end solutions from concept through deployment.

Low-Code/No-Code Development

  • Microsoft Power Platform: Copilot Studio, Power Automate, Power Apps (canvas & model-driven), Dataverse, PowerBI (data modeling, DAX, dashboards), Power Platform AI Builder.
  • SharePoint & SharePoint Lists.
  • Experience in building Virtual Agents or AI enabled chatbots.
  • Form builder & document automation (e.g., Formstack, HotDocs, ContractExpress).
  • Excel automation via Macros, VBA, and Office Scripts.

High-Code/Developer Skills

  • Languages & Scripting: JavaScript, TypeScript/OfficeScript, PowerShell, HTML, CSS, JSON.
  • APIs & Integrations: RESTful APIs, webhooks.
  • Frameworks & Cloud Services: Microsoft Azure (Functions, App Services, Logic Apps), serverless programming, and architecture principles.
  • Back-End Development: Experience designing and building web services or APIs in compiled or back-end languages such as C# or Python.
  • Web Development: Modern front-end prototyping (Svelte, React, or similar); version control with GitHub; browser DevTools and debugging.
  • Databases: SQL (querying & optimization), NoSQL (non-relational modeling).

Data & Analytics

  • Power BI data modeling, transformation, and visualization.
  • Data cleansing, normalization, and aggregation using Power Query.
  • Dashboard design for operational and client-facing reporting.

Soft Skills

  • Excellent communication skills with ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong problem-solving and design-thinking mindset.
  • Highly collaborative; proactive in identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Demonstrated alignment with Orrick's values of innovation, inclusion, and client excellence.

Preferrable, But Not Required Skills

  • Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment automation.
  • Comfortable with AI and AI enterprise technologies.
  • Experience implementing serverless or microservice architectures at scale.
  • Exposure to low-code web environments (e.g., WordPress, Webflow).
  • Design and implement document automation workflows, integrating forms, templates, and conditional logic for internal and client-facing use cases.
  • Google Workspace: Apps Script for lightweight automation.

Compensation and Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is:

  • New York City, Silicon Valley, and San Francisco $116,000.00 - $148,000.00
  • Washington DC, Los Angeles, Orange County, Santa Monica, Sacramento, Boston, and Seattle $101,000.00 - $148,000.00
  • All Other US Locations $91,000 - $120,000

Orrick is committed to providing a comprehensive, competitive, and thoughtful total compensation package to our attorneys and staff, wherever they work. This compensation and benefits information is based on the Orrick's estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include, but not limited to, qualifications, relevant experience or education, particular skills or expertise, geography. Other compensation may include an annual discretionary merit bonus, which would be determined by Firm and individual performance.
