Mechanical Quality Control Inspector - API 686

Play an integral role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and performance of critical mechanical systems across our projects. As a Mechanical Quality Control Inspector, you will bring deep technical judgment, hands-on expertise, and a passion for doing things the right way. You will work with teams who care about precision, take pride in their craft, and are committed to delivering outstanding results for our clients.

Purpose of the role

You will be responsible for leading and executing mechanical quality control activities that uphold our standards and exceed client expectations. You will use your advanced knowledge of API 686 practices, millwright techniques, shaft alignment, and fan/fan shroud systems to ensure equipment is installed and maintained with absolute accuracy. This role supports both field execution and the development of quality improvements that strengthen our mechanical discipline across the organization.

Core Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed mechanical quality inspections with a focus on rotating equipment, alignment, and system reliability.
  • Apply expert-level knowledge of API 686-or equivalent hands-on experience-to validate installation, repair, and maintenance practices.
  • Lead or support shaft alignment activities, ensuring precision and compliance with specifications.
  • Inspect and evaluate fans, fan shrouds, and associated mechanical components to verify correct installation and operational readiness.
  • Use your millwright background to assess equipment fit, function, and performance, and to advise on corrective actions when needed.
  • Utilize your CWI certification to inspect welds, ensure code compliance, and maintain documentation for structural or mechanical assemblies.
  • Exercise independent judgment when planning, organizing, and prioritizing inspection assignments.
  • Provide work direction or mentorship to junior team members or draftspersons, sharing best practices and offering technical guidance.
  • Communicate clearly and confidently with project teams, clients, and stakeholders, especially when complex issues require expert interpretation.
  • Troubleshoot systems, processes, and tools, and contribute ideas for improvements or new approaches.

  • Strong millwright skills, with experience inspecting and installing rotating equipment and mechanical systems.
