This position requires you to be working in office, 3 days per week, from our Bala Cynwyd, PA office. Position Summary The Senior Buyer - Parts is responsible for leading the strategic direction of merchandising plans across a portfolio of parts categories and sourcing channels to drive sales and profitability growth. This position plays a critical role in advancing our growth in the aftermarket automotive retail landscape, bringing deep expertise in assortment strategy, go-to-market strategy, supplier management, and margin optimization. This role will collaborate across functions, including inventory planning, marketing, finance and retail operations to drive commercial success and deliver on Pep Boys' long-term category vision. Key Responsibilities
- Work with team to develop and execute category strategies and annual business plans aligned with financial targets, customer needs, and long-term organizational objectives.
- Design and maintain a balanced good/better/best assortment strategy, leveraging customer insights, competitive analysis, and performance data to optimize mix, product screens, and sourcing channels.
- Lead vendor negotiations, contract management, and strategic partnership development to secure competitive cost structures, promotions, and exclusive offerings while ensuring supplier performance and compliance.
- Inform pricing, promotional plans, and go-to-market strategies using competitive intelligence and market trends to drive traffic, conversion, and brand positioning.
- Own category-level P&L metrics, including sales, margin, GMROI, and inventory productivity; continuously assess KPI performance to adjust strategy and improve outcomes.
- Partner with planning and supply chain teams to optimize inventory levels, forecast accuracy, supplier capabilities, replenishment, and reverse logistics for slow-moving SKUs.
- Work closely with Marketing, Store Operations, and other business partners to drive promotional execution, enhance in-store merchandising, and support training and customer engagement initiatives.
- Promote a culture of data-driven decision-making, collaboration, and accountability; actively contribute to process improvements, adoption of new systems/tools, and capability development across Merchandising.
Education and Experience
- 5-8 years of experience required
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, or related field or equivalent experience (required)
- Master's Degree in Business (preferred)
- Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and merchandising analytics tools
- Familiarity with global procurement and ERP systems (SAP Ariba, Oracle, Coupa, etc.)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Deep knowledge of merchandising, category management, and sourcing practices
- Strong understanding of automotive aftermarket parts, competitive landscape, and customer behavior (preferred)
- Knowledge of retail financial levers: margin, GMROI, turnover, and assortment productivity
- Understanding of supply chain operations, forecasting, procurement processes, and vendor compliance
- Advanced analytical, financial modeling, and data interpretation skills
- Strong negotiation and contract management capabilities
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills
- Ability to lead through influence and collaborate cross-functionally
- Strategic thinking with the ability to translate insights into action
- High degree of business acumen and commercial judgment
- Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong relationship-building and vendor management abilities
- Change leadership and ability to support adoption of new processes and systems
