Role Summary

As a Project Manager - Structural at SSR, you will blend hands-on structural engineering with client-facing leadership, spending roughly half your time managing projects and business development and half your time on technical design and delivery. You will lead structural design for low- to mid-rise buildings across healthcare, commercial, education, government/municipal, and industrial markets, as well as structural assessment and repair/retrofit projects. You will be accountable for achieving Total Project Success-meeting scope, schedule, budget, and quality objectives-while serving as a trusted structural advisor and helping grow SSR's presence in key markets.

What You'll Do

In this role, you will lead structural building projects while serving as a hands-on technical engineer and client-facing project manager.

  • Serve as the structural project manager for low- to mid-rise building projects in healthcare, commercial, education, government/municipal, and industrial markets, balancing technical delivery with client-facing responsibilities.
  • Plan and execute the structural scope for new buildings, additions, and renovations-including gravity and lateral systems, foundations, and specialty structures-to meet performance, constructability, and budget goals.
  • Lead and review structural analysis and design in accordance with current codes and standards (e.g., IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, AISC), ensuring safe, efficient, and resilient solutions.
  • Direct the production and coordination of structural drawings, models, and specifications in Revit/BIM and other design tools in collaboration with architects and multi-discipline engineering teams.
  • Manage structural assessment projects for existing buildings and structures, including on-site investigations, condition assessments, load ratings, and preparation of clear repair, retrofit, and strengthening recommendations.
  • Develop technical reports, calculations, and narratives that communicate complex structural concepts and recommendations in a way that clients and partners can easily understand.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned clients-leading regular check-ins, managing expectations, and cultivating long-term relationships that generate repeat and referral work.
  • Support business development by identifying opportunities, participating in go/no-go decisions, assisting with capture planning, and collaborating with Client Relationship Managers and Operations Directors.
  • Lead or contribute to the development of scopes, fees, proposals, and schedules for structural projects; negotiate and process additional services when scope changes occur.
  • Plan, monitor, and adjust project budgets, staffing plans, and schedules to meet revenue, utilization, and profitability targets while maintaining quality and client satisfaction.
  • Coordinate the work of internal disciplines and external subconsultants; facilitate effective communication among architects, engineers, owners, and contractors.
  • Provide construction phase services, including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals and shop drawings, performing site observations, and resolving field issues to protect design intent.
  • Coach and mentor early-career structural engineers and designers, sharing best practices in analysis, detailing, construction coordination, and client service.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of SSR's structural standards, typical details, and design tools, and actively engage in ongoing professional development.

Who We're Looking For:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Technical or Bachelor's degree in one of the major technical disciplines practiced by the firm with four years related project experience OR
  • Ten years of practical experience on similar projects
  • Professional Engineer Licensure preferred (required by those who have a ABET accredited degree in engineering)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active Structural or Civil PE license with the ability to obtain reciprocity in additional states as needed.
  • Eight or more years of progressive structural engineering experience with low- to mid-rise building projects.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multi-discipline design teams as a structural project manager on healthcare, commercial, education, government/municipal, and/or industrial projects.
  • Strong background in structural assessment, renovation, and repair/retrofit design of existing buildings and industrial structures.
  • Proficiency with structural analysis and design software (e.g., RAM, RISA, ETABS, SAP2000, STAAD) and Revit-based BIM workflows.
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable building codes and standards, including IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, and AISC requirements for building and industrial structures.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain client relationships, support marketing strategies, and contribute to winning new work.
  • Experience developing scopes, fees, and schedules and managing project financial performance, including change management and additional services.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Interest in mentoring junior staff and contributing to a collaborative, ownership-driven culture aligned with SSR's values.
