Position Summary

UNM Online is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated candidate to join our team. The primary responsibility of this role is to revise and adapt digital documents to ensure they are accessible to all users, including those with disabilities. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in digital accessibility and contribute to creating an inclusive digital environment.
Under general supervision, the candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Evaluating digital documents for accessibility compliance
  • Identifying document accessibility issues
  • Revise and adapt digital documents by correcting accessibility issues for PDFs, Word documents, and PowerPoint Presentations
  • Use accessibility checkers and assistive technologies to test revised documents and ensure they are accessible
  • Communicate effectively on progress of projects
  • Participate in training and development opportunities related to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and document revision techniques
  • Maintain records of revised documents and accessibility improvements

The candidate will also be welcomed at various internal meetings within UNM Online regarding online education in general, as well as meetings and groups within the Center for Digital Learning regarding accessibility topics.


Minimum Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
  • Basic proficiency with document editing software including Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat Pro
  • Strong attention to detail to identify and correct accessibility issues
  • Ability to follow guidelines and ensure consistency in document formatting
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize work effectively to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work collaboratively with UNM Online staff to provide project updates
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a relevant degree program such as Instructional Design, Education, Computer Science, or Digital Media
  • Ability to establish and keep a regular work schedule during the semester
  • Proficiency in tagging documents using Adobe Acrobat Pro
  • General knowledge of document formatting including using proper heading structure and tables
  • General knowledge of accessibility of digital content
  • General knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines
