Assistant Teaching Professor, Nursing

Summary



The Department of Biological Sciences at Michigan Technological University is seeking applications for an assistant/associate teaching professor. Primary consideration will be for applicants at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor, although applicants with the experience and accomplishments commensurate with a higher rank may be considered for an appointment at the rank of Associate Teaching Professor.

Instructional track faculty in Nursing are primarily responsible for the teaching and supervision of nursing students in the classroom, lab, and clinical settings. Primary teaching responsibilities will include the development and delivery of courses in the areas of Nursing Fundamentals, Maternal-Child Nursing, and Medical-Surgical Nursing or may be assigned based on need and as appropriate.

Additional academic duties for all instructional-track faculty include participation in assessment activities and committee assignments.



Responsibilities and Essential Duties




Instruction of classes, simulation, and clinical components as assigned.

Direct and indirect oversight of students in diverse clinical settings, including direct, individualized supervision of patient care, physical assessments, nursing interventions, and the administration of medications.

Coordination of clinical, lab, simulation and course assignments in collaboration with the faculty team within the academic level assigned.

Evaluation of students in class and clinical/lab settings.

Regular communications with students regarding progress.

Maintenance of student academic records.

Uphold expected course outcomes.

Participate in program assessment activities, committee assignments, and academic advising.

Uphold high standards in teaching, advising, and service responsibilities.

Advise, lead, supervise, motivate, and mentor students.

Perform various administrative duties as required or assigned.

Maintain and safeguard confidential data under HIPAA and FERPA regulations.

Adhere to university policies and procedures and maintain faculty expectations as required by the university, Michigan Board of Nursing, and accreditation.

Maintain current clinical competency and knowledge

Completes all campus and clinical site orientation and training.

Facilitate and/or conduct student orientation at clinical sites.

Be familiar and comply with clinical site agency policies and procedures.

Work collegially and professionally with students, faculty, staff, and external constituents.

Perform other duties as assigned.



Required Education, Certifications, Licensures



Master's Degree in Nursing or a related field with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing received from an accredited nursing program.

Unrestricted license to practice as a Registered nurse in the State of Michigan or current state of residence with ability to obtain Michigan Nursing license before hire.



Required Experience



Minimum of three years of clinical nursing experience is required.



Desirable Education and/or Experience



Doctoral degree in nursing, education, or related field.

Previous teaching experience in academic, clinical settings, and online.



Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities



Highly developed verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively at all levels in a collaborative team environment.

Meet physical demands of teaching in a clinical environment for extended periods

Proficient computer skills.

Work Environment and/or Physical Demands


The work environment is that of a typical office and/or classroom/lab setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Work will also be performed in a medical/clinical environment. Clinical and lab environments may involve exposure to operating circumstances that require following standard and prescribed safety precautions.
