POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Director of People Technology & Data Insights is a people leader and delivery-focused Senior Director responsible for translating Workday strategy into high-quality, scalable execution. This role serves as the primary bridge between tactical delivery teams (Analysts and Developers) and strategic leadership (VP level).

The Senior Director leads day-to-day operations of the Workday Center of Excellence, ensuring governance, quality, prioritization, and workload balance across the team. This role plays a critical part in shaping the Workday roadmap, enforcing standards, driving adoption, and delivering enterprise-wide Workday solutions that align with business goals.

The Senior Director models strong emotional intelligence, curiosity, accountability, and courageous leadership, while building an inclusive, high-performing team culture.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

General Responsibilities

Workday Delivery & Operational Leadership
  • Manage the day-to-day execution of Workday initiatives across multiple modules (e.g., HCM, Payroll, Time Tracking, Absence, Scheduling, Reporting, Integrations).
  • Allocate work across Analysts and Developers to ensure balanced workloads, efficient delivery, and alignment with roadmap priorities.
  • Enforce governance, release management, and change control processes to ensure platform stability and compliance.
  • Oversee configuration design and solution delivery to ensure scalability, quality, and adherence to enterprise standards.
  • Manage multi-module rollouts and enhancements, ensuring readiness, testing, and adoption.

Governance, Quality & Risk Management
  • Act as a tactical governance enforcer, ensuring standards for configuration, integrations, security, reporting, and testing are consistently applied.
  • Implement and oversee quality assurance practices, including peer reviews, automated testing frameworks, and release validation.
  • Monitor delivery progress, identify risks, and develop contingency plans to maintain timelines and quality.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, audit requirements, and Workday best practices.

Roadmap & Strategic Contribution
  • Partner with the VP of People Technology to prioritize initiatives in alignment with the Workday roadmap and business strategy.
  • Contribute to defining the Workday roadmap and long-term platform direction through insights from delivery, trends, and stakeholder feedback.
  • Advise on policy-process-technology fit, helping shape scalable solutions that meet enterprise needs.
  • Translate strategic priorities into clear execution plans, milestones, and deliverables.

Stakeholder Partnership & Communication
  • Serve as a key liaison between HR, IT, Payroll, Finance, and other business partners.
  • Facilitate decision-making across business and technology teams, helping resolve competing priorities and trade-offs.
  • Communicate clearly and confidently in written, verbal, and presentation settings, tailoring messages to diverse audiences.
  • Influence leaders by presenting insights, options, and recommendations grounded in data and experience.

People Leadership & Talent Development
  • Lead, coach, and develop Workday Analysts and Developers, setting clear expectations and providing timely, actionable feedback.
  • Foster ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement across the team.
  • Assess skills, strengths, and development needs, supporting growth through coaching, learning opportunities, and stretch assignments.
  • Create an inclusive, fair, and respectful team environment where individuals feel valued and empowered.
  • Support onboarding and integration of new team members to ensure quick ramp-up and success.

Planning, Metrics & Results
  • Build and manage delivery plans that define objectives, scope, timelines, resources, dependencies, and risks.
  • Balance short-term delivery demands with longer-term platform sustainability and improvement.
  • Define and track KPIs related to delivery performance, quality, adoption, and system health.
  • Take ownership for results, ensuring commitments are met and outcomes align with business expectations.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to automate, simplify, and improve Workday processes, reporting, and integrations.
  • Standardize KPIs and reporting strategies across modules to enable enterprise insight.
  • Support scalable integration architecture and contribute to integration platform strategy.
  • Encourage experimentation and learning, using trial and error to improve outcomes while managing risk appropriately.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:
  • 10+ years of experience in Workday, HRIS, or enterprise application environments.
  • 5+ years of people management or team lead experience.
  • Hands-on experience with Workday configuration, reporting, integrations, or testing.
  • Strong understanding of governance, release management, and quality assurance practices.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple initiatives and priorities simultaneously.
  • Professional/lived experience working in a culturally competent manner with a broad range of people.

Preferred:
  • Experience working in a Workday Center of Excellence model.
  • Workday certifications (any modules).
  • Experience supporting large, complex organizations.
  • Background partnering closely with HR, Payroll, Finance, and IT teams.

The base salary range below represents the low and high end of the salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel. The range listed is just one component of the Company's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term and long-term incentives and many region-specific benefits.

Denver area base salary range: $174,000 - $230,000 per year
