The purpose of Southwire's College Programs is to provide valuable experience to students pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher. Our goal is to give students meaningful work that builds on what they are learning in the classroom. Our programs are project based. Students will receive a project at the beginning of the summer and present it in our project expo at the end of the summer. Job Description

Job Summary/Objective:
The purpose of Southwire's College Programs is to help early career professionals bring together formal learning and

productive work to improve their ability to transition from school to work. Southwire provides interns and co-ops with

"real world" applications of their academic studies, helpful feedback and coaching, and consideration for employment

after graduation. Each student will have a variety of responsibilities and assigned projects that relate to their field of

study and be responsible for developing a timeline, progress updates, and final delivery in a senior leadership expo.

Note: All new interns and co-ops must begin in the summer rotation.

Key Responsibilities
* Your intern assignment is generally 10-12 weeks, and co-op assignment is generally 16-18 weeks and

will include an assigned project and opportunities to present your work.

* You will also collaborate on other exciting projects and work with talented peers and inspirational

leaders, many of whom began as interns and co-ops themselves.

* You will be provided a robust developmental experience through an immersive onboarding and

offboarding experience, assigned a mentor, networking opportunities, organized events, activities, and

community service /volunteer initiatives.

* You will have the opportunity to impact the future of the organization, all the while being exposed to

a world-class program community.

Long Description

Position Summary

The EHS Intern is responsible for supporting health and safety compliance and program management for assigned Southwire facility/facilities. Provides expertise to ensure regulatory requirements applicable to the facility are known. Plans, organizes and implements health and safety activities at the facility and assists facility management and EHS staff in monitoring all facility activities to ensure that regulatory and company requirements are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure management and operational personnel are aware of applicable current and pending regulatory requirements imposed by federal, state and local authorities.
  • Create processes that identify, evaluate, and control hazards in the workplace.
  • Implement and maintain required EHS compliance programs/processes.
  • Provide industrial hygiene support as needed to evaluate employee noise and other health exposures.
  • Direct the development and implementation of new EHS programs.
  • Provide training for staff in relation to EHS policies, practice and procedures.
  • Provide support for implementation and sustainability of the Behavior Base Safety process and Human Performance.
  • Assist with the coordination of emergency services and contractors.
  • Champion implementation of an EHS management program, including certification to ISO 45001 or OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP).

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2.5 GPA.
  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree in healthy, safety and/or environmental field, industrial engineering or similar degrees.
  • Familiarity with various safety regulations or standards (OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, NEC, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of ISO 45001 and/or OSHA VPP standard is preferred.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organization, planning, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Curiosity about innovation, user experience, design thinking, and process improvement.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) or other relevant tools
