The Sales Engineer is responsible for identifying opportunities, applying the best HVAC solutions to customer applications, and promoting and selling company products within an assigned territory. This role partners closely with contractors, engineers, and internal teams to deliver technically sound solutions and exceptional customer service.
The ideal candidate combines technical HVAC knowledge with a consultative sales mindset and a strong commitment to customer relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, develop, and manage sales opportunities within the assigned territory
- Apply appropriate HVAC solutions and products based on customer and application requirements
- Present and demonstrate HVAC products, clearly communicating features, benefits, and value
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, engineers, and industry partners
- Support job pricing and bidding activity, including assisting with same-day bid questions when needed
- Serve as a point of contact for technical or urgent customer inquiries when the assigned salesperson is unavailable, ensuring coordination and minimal escalation
- Handle inbound calls not assigned to a specific contractor, including engineer, government, and general inquiries
- Track sales activity, maintain accurate records, and report on performance and pipeline activity
- Attend weekly sales meetings and actively participate in team collaboration
- Attend industry trade shows and events to strengthen relationships and stay current on market trends
- Work closely with customer support and operations teams to ensure timely order fulfillment and resolution of post-sale issues
- Maintain ongoing education in HVAC technology, product applications, and sales strategies
- Demonstrate a commitment to "Golden Rule" service - treating customers and teammates with professionalism, respect, and integrity
Required
- 2+ years of experience in HVAC, mechanical systems, building systems, or technical sales
- Experience supporting or selling HVAC equipment (e.g., air handling units, chillers, VRF, packaged systems, controls, or related components)
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical schedules, submittals, and basic engineering drawings
- Strong customer-facing experience with contractors, engineers, or owners
- Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Outlook, Power Point) and CRM or sales tracking tools
Preferred
- Experience in manufacturer representation, distribution, or OEM environments
- Experience working with consulting engineers, specifying engineers, or design-build contractors
- Prior territory management or quota-based sales experience
- Exposure to mission-critical, healthcare, life sciences, or large commercial HVAC projects
