Job Description We are seeking a skilled Low Voltage / Structured Cabling Technician to perform installation, service, maintenance, repair, and modification of structured cabling and communications infrastructure. This role involves working with Cat5/Cat6, fiber optic cabling, and various lowvoltage systems in commercial environments. The technician will complete handson installations including racks, cabinets, cable tray/pathway systems, equipment moves, and cable removals. The position requires travel within a 2hour radius (occasionally more) to customer sites to perform service work on network equipment. Candidates must be willing to support night and weekend work when required. Responsibilities * Install, service, maintain, and repair lowvoltage cabling systems including Cat3, Cat5, Cat5e, Cat6, and fiber optic cables. * Perform cable routing, pulling, dressing, labeling, and termination of copper and fiber cabling. * Install and remove structured cabling components such as racks, cabinets, patch panels, jacks, cable tray, ladder racks, and pathway systems. * Conduct testing, troubleshooting, and certification of copper and fiber links. * Interpret and work from blueprints, technical drawings, and project documentation. * Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, materials used, and test results. * Provide professional customer service while working onsite at client locations. * Work independently with minimal supervision and meet project deadlines. * Travel to customer locations as scheduled (paid travel). * Support occasional night and weekend work depending on project or service needs. Required Skills * Cable installation and termination (Cat5/Cat6) * Lowvoltage cabling and pathway installation * Fiber optic installation and termination * Rackandstack experience * Cable tray and ladder rack installation * Troubleshooting and testing of copper and fiber cabling * Strong customer service and communication skills Preferred Skills * BICSI certification * OSHA 10 * Familiarity with telecom, data, security, and wireless cabling infrastructure * Understanding of industry standards: BICSI, ANSI, EIA/TIA, NEC * Experience with coax, powerlimited tray cable, or multimode/singlemode fiber * Manufacturer certifications (Panduit, Commscope, Corning, Leviton, Ortronics) * Healthcare facility certifications (infection control, safety, bloodborne pathogens) Education & Experience * Associate degree or technical certification in a related field - or equivalent handson experience * Minimum 2+ years of experience installing and maintaining structured cabling systems * Ability to interpret technical documents, schematics, and drawings * Valid driver's license; ability to operate company vehicles safely Physical Requirements * Ability to lift up to 50 lbs frequently and up to 100 lbs occasionally * Must be able to work on ladders, lifts, and in tight or elevated spaces * Strong vision (color, depth, near and far) * Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, climb, kneel, and crouch as needed * Clear speech and hearing for effective communication Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rochester, NY.
