Job Summary and Responsibilities

A Network Engineer - Wireless is a highly skilled professional who is responsible for the design, implementation, and management of complex data networks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

Your role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining the networks that enable communication services. Here are some key aspects of your job:

  • Network Design: You'll design telecommunications networks that can handle voice, data, and video traffic efficiently. This includes planning the layout of network elements such as routers, switches, servers, and cables.
  • Implementation: You'll be responsible for deploying network infrastructure according to the design specifications. This involves configuring hardware, installing software, and ensuring connectivity across the network.
  • Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Networks require ongoing maintenance to ensure optimal performance and reliability. You'll monitor network performance, diagnose and resolve issues, and implement upgrades as needed.
  • Security: Network security is critical in telecommunications to protect against cyber threats and unauthorized access. You'll implement security measures such as firewalls, encryption, and access controls.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other teams such as software developers, system administrators, and customer support to ensure seamless integration of network services and applications.
  • Compliance and Standards: Adherence to industry standards and regulatory requirements is essential. Ensure that network designs and implementations meet these standards.
  • Emerging Technologies: The telecommunications industry is constantly evolving with advancements like 5G, IoT, and SD-WAN. You'll need to stay updated with these technologies and their implications for network infrastructure.
  • Documentation: Maintaining accurate documentation of network configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps is crucial for efficient operation and future upgrades.

Qualifications

  • Education: A bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, telecommunications, or a related field is strong preferred.
  • Technical Skills: A strong understanding of networking concepts such as TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, VPNs, and subnetting. Knowledge of telecommunications protocols like SIP, MPLS, and VoIP is also beneficial.
  • Certifications: Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or equivalent, is preferred.
  • Experience: Relevant experience in network engineering or telecommunications is needed. This could include internships, co-op programs, or previous employment in IT or network-related roles.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Network engineers need to diagnose and resolve complex network issues efficiently. Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills are essential.
  • Communication Skills: Effective communication is crucial to collaborate with colleagues, vendors, and clients to design, implement, and troubleshoot network solutions.
