HDR is looking for a Control Systems Team Lead to join our Building Engineering Services (BES) Business Group in Folsom, CA. Team leads are leaders in the practice who influence culture, morale, and recruiting as well as provide leadership in the pursuit and delivery of work. A Team Lead not only has deep engineering expertise in their discipline, but they understand how cross discipline teams function. They couple that understanding with leadership abilities to positively impact the success of the business. The Control Systems Team Lead will be responsible for providing control systems engineering expertise and mentoring as well as be responsible to produce control systems design and systems integration for a variety of markets including Water/Wastewater, Municipal, Industrial, Federal, Resources, Transportation, Health Care, Technology, and Commercial.

They will be responsible for the operation of the Northern California BES control systems team including staff development, workflow and forecasting, proposals and level of effort, scheduling, profitability, morale, and quality control, and will function as a technical lead on projects in addition to staff management responsibilities. They will select, train, develop, and manage technical personnel, and help identify/ recruit talented staff to enable our control systems section to grow to meet the design needs of the BES business group. They will be administratively responsible for their team's technical service functions and will lead and coordinate services with other disciplines. They will be directly involved with clients in project production and related issues, and will implement, monitor, and support company policy.

As a technical lead, they will be expected to coordinate and work closely with a multidiscipline design team throughout the entire life cycle of projects from planning stages, through the development of construction documents, and construction administration. They will be responsible for the development of construction drawings, specifications, and supporting engineering calculations, as well as the review of shop drawings during construction. This individual should be self-motivated, collaborative and possess strong leadership skills with an initiative to deliver high quality, technically sound control systems engineering designs.

In the role of Control Systems Team Lead, we'll count on you to:
  • Take responsibility for operations of production section including staff development, profitability, morale, quality control and marketing support
  • May function as an Assistant Project Manager and assist in responsibility for production on projects in addition to management responsibilities
  • Take administrative responsibility for section staff and technical service functions, and lead and coordinate services with other sections
  • Be involved in marketing planning, proposals and interviews
  • Be directly involved with industrial and public clients in marketing, project production and related issues
  • Assist in ensuring that all work is planned, organized, controlled and evaluated through proactive project management system
  • Implement, monitor and support company policy
  • Assist in the selection, training, development and management of technical personnel
  • Work cooperatively with National Directors and marketing staff in local and national marketing and production efforts
  • Lead, produce, and coordinate the work of Control Systems Coordinators, EIT's, and Engineers and design with the balance of a multidiscipline team throughout the entire project's development
  • Participate in Project quality checks and reviews with various governing agencies for technical content and Code compliance
  • Coordinate workload for the control system's team's project development to complete documents on schedule
  • Establish client relations, and participate in the marketing, design and production meetings with regard to control systems
  • Conduct schematic, design development and contract document work sessions at the project site in conjunction with the Project Manager, Project Architect and other disciplines
  • Track the financial aspects of projects, and coordinate and adjust the work effort with the team to ensure that the work is completed within the parameters of the agreed-upon schedule
  • Be involved in marketing planning, proposals and interviews
  • Perform other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Involved in extracurricular activities and/or engineering societies, such as IEEE or ISA.
  • Excellent communication, leadership and planning skills, and ability to thrive in a team environment. Position requires very strong skills in preparing client presentations, project memoranda and reports.
  • 10 years experience preferred
  • Professional Engineer Licensure in Control Systems or similar Mechanical/Electrical Engineering

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of 7 years experience
  • Professional registration, license or certification may be required based on role
  • Strong communication and listening skills
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments
  • Good leadership and organizational skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

The expected compensation range for this position is $117,887.00 - $168,410.00 annually depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.
