Financial Accounting Manager

LOCATION: Columbus, WI

SUMMARY: This position will manage the day-to-day operations of the Center of Excellence general accounting operations. In addition, the position will be responsible for developing, implementing and governing the systems for collecting and reporting financial information. By maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures, the Accounting Manager ensures accurate and timely financial statements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the overall accuracy of the general ledger by managing the key accounting functional areas (A/P, Sales, A/R, Banking, Cost Accounting, Inventory Valuation, etc.). Leads and assists monthly general ledger closing activities and reconciliations.
  • Oversee and analyze department work to continually drive improvements. Develop and implement new procedures and features to enhance department workflow and improve accuracy and timeliness.
  • Prepare and distribute financial statements including balance sheet, income statement, and cash reporting. Coordinate preparation of the monthly scorecard for the Center of Excellence.
  • Advise staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting and transactions.
  • Work with each direct reports to establish goals and objectives, monitor performance, and provide opportunity for professional development.
  • Maintain technical skills to participate and assist in A/R collections, A/P processing, and job costing.
  • Maintain accuracy of sales reports and fixed asset reports.
  • Lead preparation of annual audit and tax schedules, and other compliance activities as required.
  • Assist controller with analysis needed to properly evaluate financial performance of the organization.
  • Understands processes end-to-end across departments to support efficient, timely and accurate impacts on financial results.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field from four-year college or university plus 5 years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience directing or supervising others preferred, but not required.
  • Previous manufacturing experience preferred, but not required.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Strong leadership skills
  • Proven problem solver with excellent analytical skills
  • Experience and comfort with a variety of computer systems and exporting/analyzing data in Excel, including joining data from multiple sources.
  • Experience in operational accounting, manufacturing, and/or cost accounting
  • Enjoy a fast-paced environment and are dedicated to driving and achieving results.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure including whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
