The Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Manager, Client Development to join our Firm. This position will be based in our New York City office (hybrid). The Senior Manager, Client Development, holds a pivotal role within Skadden's Client Development team, focusing on supporting voice-of-client strategies, including management of key accounts and delivering operational service value to prioritized relationships. The Senior Manager leads key client development initiatives and strategies.

Responsibilities

  • With the Director, Client Development (DCD), leads and supports the enhancement and evolution of the Firm's client feedback program, across various strategies and tactics.
  • Participates in, supports and leads client service interviews with select clients, and manages related follow-up activity to deliver on goals and strategies.
  • Supports the development of a formal and structured Firm key account program, including standardized approaches, processes, plans and research/intelligence.
  • Directly manages and supports key client accounts, in collaboration with the Business Development function, BDM Operations function and regional BDM leadership, resulting in measurable growth of targeted relationships.
  • Responsible for initiating, designing and executing various revenue expansion strategies for relationship partners of identified Firm key accounts.
  • Works closely with the DCD, Business Development Directors, practice leaders, relevant partners and various members of the BDM Department to enhance and protect existing client relationships and secure and realize new client relationships.
  • Provides seamless coordination and execution of Client Development initiatives, supported by various functional teams, including Business Development, BDM Operations, Marketing, Communications, Events, and Strategic Intelligence.
  • Collaborates closely with the global Business Development & Marketing team to ensure the highest level of client engagement and client service.
  • Serves as a trusted advisor to the lawyers to advance their client development efforts, including developing client development plans and coaching on best practices.
  • Contributes to the delivery of operational services and value-added initiatives to key accounts, ensuring that client needs are proactively identified and addressed through tailored solutions and coordinated Firm resources.
  • Facilitates cross-practice and cross-office collaboration to maximize the Firm's ability to deliver integrated, client-focused solutions and to leverage the full breadth of the Firm's capabilities for key accounts.
  • Establishes and monitors key performance indicators for the key account program and related client relationship initiatives, providing regular reporting and analysis to the Executive Partner, CMBDO, practice leaders, and other stakeholders in collaboration with DCD, BDM Operations Director, BD Directors and senior members of the BDM department.
  • Ensures the highest standards of client service and relationship management by providing guidance, training, and support to BDM professionals and other team members involved in key account activities.
  • Collaborates with other BDM Department leaders to ensure that marketing, communications, and business development strategies are fully integrated and aligned with the goals of the key account program.
  • Manages resources and budgets for the key account program and related client relationship initiatives, ensuring efficient allocation and effective use of personnel and platform resources.
  • Supports the development and execution of client-focused events, thought leadership, and other initiatives designed to enhance the Firm's profile and deepen relationships with key clients.
  • Manages Firm resources responsibly.
  • Complies with and understands Firm operation, policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Current knowledge of industry best practices, trends and techniques
  • Knowledge of relevant Firm computer software programs (e.g., Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), with the ability to learn new software and operating systems
  • Experience with CRM, Foundation, and other Marketing and Financial databases
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrates close attention to detail
  • Ability to demonstrate exceptional client service, both internal and external
  • Ability to build rapport and work comfortably with partners

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of eight years marketing and business development experience in a law firm or professional services environment and a minimum of five years of managerial experience

The starting base salary for this position is expected to be within the range listed under Salary Details. Actual salary will be determined based on skills, experience (to the extent relevant) and other-job related factors, consistent with applicable law.
