General Statement: The Salvation Army is a branch part of the Christian Church and the ultimate goal of all programs is spiritual regeneration of all people.

Corps/Department: Salvation Army Clitheroe Center
Reports To: Executive Director
FLSA Status: Full Time/40 hours per week; Exempt

Education and Work Experience:



  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; current Alaska Registered Nurse license preferred; a licensed practical nurse who is supervised by a physician may also apply.
  • Current certification in CPR and first aid
  • Experience in direct client care of alcohol/drug withdrawal management with knowledge of the psychological and behavioral manifestations of chemical dependency preferred.


Scope of Position/Essential Functions:

The Residential Nurse under the general guidance of the Executive Director, at Clitheroe Residential, reviews and manages the self-administration medicine protocol; provides guidance and training to Behavioral Health Associates and other residential staff, documents client's primary care doctor's orders, maintains medication administration records (MARs) for clients, or delegates task as needed, regularly audits MARs for errors and provides training / correction to staff as needed, provides initials and as needed client nursing assessment as appropriate. Works with the Case Manager, and Residential Clinical Coordinator to refer clients for primary care as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:



  • Proficiency in using general office equipment, Microsoft Office Suite, Intergy EHR, and report-generating
  • Ability to maintain a collaborative and cooperative work environment and to work with a minimum of supervision.
  • Detail oriented with a high level of accuracy required.
  • Ability to complete multiple tasks, meet deadlines, observe confidentiality, remain self-motivated, and work with a minimum of supervision.
  • Nursing skills to assess withdrawal and to provide referral for appropriate medical intervention.
  • Ability to conduct training for Behavioral Health Associates on proper medication self-administration procedures.
  • Knowledge of cross-cultural issues and skill in working with diverse population.
  • Alaska driver's license with acceptable criminal history and driving records.


Essential Functions:



  • Uses accepted nursing practices and universal precautions; maintains safety and health standards; participates in emergency evacuation drills
  • Trains and provides guidance and assistance to Behavioral Health Associates on proper medication self-administration procedures and monitors their completed forms. Provides employee corrective actions for MAR errors.
  • Assures medications are stored according to policy.
  • Maintains nursing and medication records; completes reports in the allotted time frames.
  • Assists in developing and providing motivational counseling; makes referrals or delegates referral tasks per program policy; provides for relevant training to staff and clients on medications; teaches clients about current health issues as needed.
  • Completes nursing intake and discharge records; facilitates continuity of care as needed.
  • Participates in Electronic Health Records documentation and oversees medication and allergy entry into EHR.
  • Participates as a member of the Clitheroe Management Team as needed.
  • Attends and participates in meetings as scheduled, including Treatment Team, and All staff meetings at Clitheroe Residential.
  • Provides On-Call consultation for client emergency medical concerns.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Executive Director.


Software-related Skills: Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel required; Intergy EHR, working knowledge of database applications and ability to use new software programs with basic training.

Work Environment: The work environment is located in a residential treatment setting. Noise level is usually at a low level.

Language Skills: Must be able to understand, follow and give both written and oral instructions. The employee must be able to use speech and hearing for ordinary and telephone conversation.

Mathematical Skills: Must be able to perform simple calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) and apply concepts such as ratios and percentages in practical situations.

Performance Skills: Must be creative, self-motivated, organized, and flexible.

Sacred Boundaries and Protect the Mission: Must complete the online course for this area and pass the Background Check required by The Salvation Army for employment.

Physical Requirements: Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on intermittent or continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull, and reach overhead. Ability to operate a telephone. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Ability to access and produce information from a computer. Ability to understand written information. Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
