Advisor, Financial Aid Services - South Campus

PRIMARY FUNCTION: To advise students on requirements for obtaining financial aid and to assist current and prospective students with any issues related to funding their college education.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Assist students and families with all financial aid options and processing federal, state and institutional financial aid applications in accordance with federal, state and college regulations. This includes verification concerns.
  • Plan, implement, and conduct retention and completion activities related to financial literacy and education.
  • Uses professional judgment to evaluate dependency and special circumstance appeals.
  • Work with the Manager of Financial Aid to plan, implement and evaluate the programs and services provided by the Financial Aid Office.
  • Conduct financial aid informational presentations to special groups
  • Prepares for and participates in a variety of college/campus /community, task force, workshops, training sessions and conferences as assigned; collaborates with other service areas to provide and improve services to students.
Additional Job Functions:
  • Work cooperatively with counterparts on the other campuses to achieve the College's annual goals and objectives.
  • Represent SJC with outside educational institutions, internal departments, and professional organizations. Serve as department liaison and on campus/college committees as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Maintain processes and systems that improve the quality of customer support services.
  • Demonstrate working functional knowledge and use of Banner and Microsoft Office.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to assess issues and/or problems and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of and compliance with FERPA and other federal, state and local laws and regulations pertaining to higher education.
  • Must possess outstanding communication, critical thinking, customer service, and organizational skills, and be able to explain complex processes.
  • Must be detail-oriented.
  • Must have knowledge of college admission and enrollment processes, advising and educational planning, basic career planning, and transfer requirements.
  • Demonstrate the desire to learn new software requirements to support office functions & efficiency.
  • Ability to adapt to learning new tasks & skills.
Required Education:
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university required.
Required Experience:
  • Possess personal computer literacy and good organizational skills.
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience in financial aid, admissions, registrar, advising, testing, or marketing of higher education and recruitment of students required
  • Banner experience preferred.

Note: The duties of this position require a physical presence at the assigned on-site work location during unrestricted operations with very limited or no opportunity for remote work arrangements.

Salary Grade: 110

Salary is based on the Board-approved salary schedule for the current fiscal year. See Salary Schedule
