Summary

The Senior Dairy Specialist is responsible for monitoring assigned wholesale dairy farm and livestock relations ships; develops timely milk, cattle, feed, and California pool quota recommendations to the department manager; and oversees junior appraisal staff assigned to dairy farm and livestock operation relationships.

Additional responsibilities include the physical inspection of assigned relationships plus budget preparation and/or analysis, the subsequent reporting of the required inspection reports and the inspection and valuation of the operating assets as collateral including livestock, feed inventories, equipment and crops.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

  • Responsible for assigned appraisal inspection, valuation and budget preparation requirements for the Dairy and Livestock Industries Group and possibly other Business Financial Centers.
  • Make physical inspections of various wholesale dairy farms and livestock operations, etc., located in California and out-of-state.
  • Prepare and/or analyze budgets for various wholesale dairy farms and livestock operations, etc.
  • Prepare comprehensive, well-written and timely Dairy and Livestock Reports for all inspections made.
  • Prepare required reporting for various and selected real estate projects associated with dairy farm and livestock operations, including construction. Make progress inspections on various and selected construction projects and prepare reporting as to the status of completion.
  • Maintain updated valuations of livestock, including dairy and beef cattle, for various budgeting requirements associated with dairy farm and livestock operations.
  • Maintain updated information on milk pricing, including California Pool Quota valuation, for various budgeting requirements.
  • Maintain updated information on crop pricing for various budgeting requirements associated with dairy farm and livestock operations.
  • Maintain updated valuations of equipment for various budgeting and valuation requirements associated with dairy farm and livestock operations.
  • Maintain updated appraisal monitoring log for assigned relationships.
  • Maintain an accurate log of appraisal time required for each assignment completed.
  • Supervise junior appraisal staff assigned to dairy farm and livestock operation relationships.
  • Maintain updated appraisal monitoring log for junior appraisal staff assigned to dairy farm and livestock operation relationships.
  • Complies with and stays abreast of all policies and procedures, federal and state laws applicable to the job.
  • Provide, present and promote The Citizens Experience to all external and internal customers.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities. May oversee junior staff at the direction of the Senior Dairy Specialist Manager.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or ten to twelve years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills

Basic familiarity and working knowledge of various software programs required for the valuation and budgeting functions as well as inspection reporting.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Current driver's license

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Strong social and interactive skills plus ability to be self motivated and organized.
  • Must be able to schedule accounts, complete the inspections and complete the required reporting within the time frame agreed upon by the Department Manager.

Other Qualifications

  • Livestock, crop and equipment valuation experience plus budget preparation and analysis experience.
  • Must be able to drive 25% of the time and must be able to travel out-of-state via commercial flights.
