Bargaining unit consideration begins on 3/19/2026 and ends on 3/26/2026 This project aims to create a Community-Engaged Food and Environmental Justice Studies Hub rooted in the humanities to invigorate research, learning, and relationships that will ensure a just and equitable distribution of the benefits and risks of global change among our community members. Our goal is to create a sustainable infrastructure consisting of humanistic and environmental justice-based academic programming and knowledge production, virtual and physical community spaces, and a website hosting the output of knowledge generated by curricular, extra-curricular, and research projects and symposia. The work is grouped into three phases that map roughly onto the three years. Each phase includes efforts in three areas: A) Academic Programming, B) Mobilizing Community, and C) Curating Knowledge at the nexus of food and environmental justice to build awareness and advance justice. We will form an advisory group consisting of a wide range of underrepresented community members to help us align curricular, extra-curricular, and research initiatives at UMD with areas of need in the community. 25%
