Purpose:


This position provides planning, mentorship, and guidance to Calumet's NWLA operations facilities to achieve best-in-class capital projects and turnaround performance. Collaborates with internal and external sources to employ best practices, tools, and systems to continually improve both capital projects management guidelines (PMG) and turnaround planning and execution (TP&E) process. Provides leadership in development and improvement as Calumet continues to transition its PMG and TP&E systems into industry-accepted practices.


Reporting Relationships:


This position will report directly to the SVP - Operations with dotted line accountability to the three NWLA plant managers. The position will provide mentorship and guidance to the NWLA Capital Projects Manager and the turnaround execution managers at the three NWLA sites. The position will also share best practices with the Montana business unit with the long-term vision of common PMG and TP&E processes at all Calumet facilities. While this position initially will not have any direct reports, there is the possibility of justifying additional resources as the centralized capital projects and turnaround planning organization evolve.


Ideal candidate is located in Northwest Louisiana.


Description:


Turnaround Planning



  • Turnaround excellence has been identified as the next transformational activity needed to improve long-term asset reliability. This position is critical to achieving this goal.



  • Play a key role in transitioning Calumet to industry-accepted TP&E practices. Turnaround planning milestones have been identified and tracking systems put in place for the 2026 March turnaround at Montana and the 2026 October 'Green Block' turnaround at Shreveport. This position will take those existing practices (still in its infancy) and improve them.



  • Work directly with SVP - Asset Transformation and Mechanical Integrity Director in OPEX to improve the tools being used for turnaround planning.



  • Serve on the Shreveport turnaround steering committee as the main facilitator to make sure milestones are being tracked and met. Identify resource constraints, roadblocks, and critical paths. Work within the organization and the plant management to resolve. Elevate major issues to SVP-Operations for resolution. Keep SVP-Operations updated on progress.



  • Manage the Cruz Alta turnaround coaches (operations, execution, safety) for the 2026 October 'Green Block' turnaround at Shreveport.



  • Implement the Shreveport turnaround model for the following future activities:





    • 1Q27 CDW catalyst changeout







    • October 2027 Shreveport 'Blue Block' turnaround







    • October 2027 Princeton plant-wide turnaround







    • 2028 Cotton Valley plant-wide turnaround







    • 2029 Shreveport 'Green Block' turnaround



Capital Projects



  • Continue adoption and improvement of the PMG process.



  • Use the risk ranking process to assist in identification and prioritization of capital projects via the risk register.



  • Participate in HOP learning events to improve project planning and execution.



  • Provide mentorship and guidance to the Shreveport capital project manager to assure efficient capital spend in NWLA via good planning and execution.


Required Education/Experiences:



  • Bachelor's degree in engineering.



  • Minimum 10 years of operating and technical experience in refining, lubricants, and/or chemicals manufacturing.



  • Five years or more experience in a supervisory role.



  • Relevant experience in capital project and turnaround manager roles.


Preferred Education/Experiences:



  • An advanced degree in engineering or an MBA.



  • Experience in other manufacturing roles.


Competencies:

  • Knowledge of computer and tracking systems used for planning and scheduling.
