Remote Work: This position is eligible for a partial telework arrangement; however, frequent on-site presence is required for field data collection, laser scanning, and physical building inspections. | Primary Purpose of Department |
The Facilities Management Engineering Services unit is responsible for providing specialized engineering support, managing the University's energy resources, and integrated life-cycle management plan; and supporting several other complex project management initiatives and projects while working in partnership with other FM units and campus partners. |
| Primary Purpose of Position |
The
BIM Manager position evaluates design documents and participates in project planning for every informal and formal project we have on campus. The
BIM Manager also leads the review and evaluation of project close-out documentation, including
BIM spreadsheets for asset (equipment and system) identification, 3D building models, and system operations & maintenance manuals.
The
BIM Manager also leads efforts to model and document our existing campus buildings and infrastructure systems. This requires the use of advanced scanning equipment and computer software. This involves reviewing existing documents, which are typically incomplete, and using a combination of best practices and engineering judgment to fill in the gaps in documentation. The
BIM Manager will be responsible for creating and maintaining
BIM models using Revit. The
BIM Manager is responsible for developing all of the work processes required to complete the aforementioned actions. The work performed by the
BIM Manager requires a strong engineering background and knowledge of building codes (
IBC & NC), and standards (such as
ISO and
ESRI standards). |
| Summary of Position Responsibilities |
- The BIM Manager is responsible for the creation, implementation, and management of BIM standards and workflows for campus projects.
- Key duties include performing 3D laser scanning of existing infrastructure, developing and maintaining Revit models for the University's building portfolio, and collaborating with design and construction teams to ensure asset data integration into the facility management database.
- The role serves as the primary technical lead for BIM-related project close-outs and system identification.
- Program Support - Support the BIM and Asset Management programs for the UNC Charlotte Facilities Management department.
- Program Support - Create and implement new ideas and strategies to set and meet goals to support the BIM Program and new Asset Management program.
- Professional Knowledge - Use related program software such as Archibus, (Autodesk - AutoCAD, ACC products, Revit, and Navisworks in daily work activities to create project documentation improvements.
- Program Support - Use and implement the Integrated Lifecycle Management (ILM) and Asset Management plans in all aspects of construction, renovation, and equipment replacement/repair on campus for staff and vendors to follow. Assist in revising ILM plan as directed by the supervisor.
- Assist in developing and implementing strategies to ensure successful practices for continued success for all current and future campus building activities.
- Act as the customer's primary point of contact (POC) with the Capital Projects department, engineers, architects, consultants, and contractors regarding BIM as directed by the supervisor.
- Check data in models for accuracy and review existing information in existing models, and integrate reviewed and acceptable data into desired EAM system.
- Professional Knowledge - Must have knowledge and skill with BIM (Building Information Modeling) practices.\
- Communication - Document any issues with incoming models.
- Professional Knowledge - Stay current with current technology and be aware of emerging technologies.

| Minimum Education/Experience |
- Graduation from a four-year college or university and at least four years of program associate experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

| Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience |
- Master's degree.
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering or related technical field preferred.
- Minimum of five years of experience in commercial construction or relate experience to successfully lead BIM program.
- Experience with laser scanners and software (Faro Focus Scanners and Scene Software preferred). Other laser scanners and software experience are acceptable.
- Experience with technical software such in the fields of design, construction and/or building operations. Including programs such as: Dropbox, Microsoft Office Suite, 3D Modeling, and willingness to learn new programs.
- Ability to understand and incorporate Operation and Maintenance Support Information (OMSI) documentation, information, manuals, warranties, drawings, reports and close out information into existing database system.
- Ability to effectively communicate the English language (reading, writing, interpretation and comprehension).
- Effective skills in verbal, written and interpersonal communications, however excellent communication skills are preferred.
- Ability to effectively work/interact with persons from different backgrounds and cultures.
- Ability to foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork with co-workers, visitors, building occupants, and the entire campus community.

Valid driver's license required. The Building Information Model (
BIM) Manager operates assigned vehicles on and/or off campus and is required to possess, maintain, or obtain a valid driver's license upon appointment to the position. |
