Job Description

SUMMARY:

The Manufacturing Process Systems Specialist is a hybrid technical role serving as the central steward of machining process knowledge, ensuring that routings, tooling data, CNC program libraries, and equipment setup instructions remain accurate, standardized, and aligned with current production practices. This position is responsible for supporting machining tooling operations while maintaining accurate manufacturing process data within the plant's production management systems. This position combines hands-on tooling expertise with manufacturing systems administration. The specialist serves as a subject matter expert on tooling selection, machining processes, and manufacturing data integrity, while helping drive improvements in tooling efficiency, process standardization, and production throughput.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Tooling Operations Support

  • Coordinate and support tool room activities and communicate tooling status with production and engineering teams.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on tooling selection, application, and optimization for machining operations.
  • Assist with tooling improvements that reduce cost, improve tool life, and increase machining efficiency.
  • Support fixture and tooling setup processes across machining operations.
  • Train tool makers and production personnel on tooling processes and CNC program usage.
  • Work with external tooling vendors and integrators to clarify tooling and process requirements.

Manufacturing Systems & Data Management

  • Review, audit, and maintain manufacturing process data within the plant's production management system.
  • Identify and remove obsolete, duplicate, or inaccurate records within tooling and process libraries.
  • Maintain standardized records for equipment setups, manufacturing routings, tooling lists, and CNC program libraries.
  • Establish and maintain consistent naming conventions and documentation standards.
  • Enter and maintain manufacturing data within ERP, MES, or other production management systems.
  • Support Continuous Improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to standardize tooling, reduce setup variability, and improve machining process consistency.

Process Documentation & Standardization

  • Maintain revision control of setup documentation, tooling lists, and machining process standards.
  • Ensure process documentation aligns with engineering changes and approved manufacturing methods.
  • Coordinate updates to routings, work instructions, and CNC programs when product or process changes occur.
Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably supporting CNC machining or tooling operations.
  • Experience supporting CNC machining processes, including editing, proving out, or assisting with CNC programs.
  • Familiarity with machining tooling including identification, selection, and basic optimization.
  • Working knowledge of CNC machining processes, cutting tools, and fixture concepts used in production machining.
  • Ability to organize and maintain manufacturing process data with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to document manufacturing processes and develop clear work instructions.
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working with ERP, MES, or manufacturing production management systems.
  • Exposure to tooling cost reduction or process improvement initiatives.
  • Experience working with machining documentation such as routings, tooling lists, and setup sheets.
  • Familiarity with fixture design or tooling integration concepts.
  • Technical training, apprenticeship, or associate degree in machining or manufacturing technology.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Standing for extended periods of time, walking throughout the facility, ability to lift 50lbs as required.
Additional Information

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Exposed to elements, such as cold, heat, noise, dust, odors, fumes, etc.
  • Work time is spent on the manufacturing floor and in an office setting.
  • Potential for alternating rotation of 1st and 2nd shifts.
  • Minimal travel requirements to other McWane facilities and suppliers.
