Compensation

At S&C, we are dedicated to providing competitive and equitable compensation for all our team members, and we are committed to transparency in our pay practices. The estimated annual base salary range for this position in the United States is $106,0730 - $140,549. Individual pay within this salary range is determined by several compensable factors, including performance, knowledge, job-related skills and experience, and relevant education or training. This role is also eligible for S&C's annual incentive plan (AIP), subject to eligibility criteria.

The global Power System Solutions (PSS) organization is an integral part of S&C Electric Company, dedicated to providing comprehensive service and support for S&C customers. The organization offers services and solutions that support S&C equipment, including field service, engineering, analytical services, and customer support. These specialized divisions work collaboratively to ensure the delivery of high-quality solutions for customer distribution, transmission and generation interconnection needs worldwide.

The Assistant Manager - Power Systems Control is responsible for the daily operations and short-term tactical implementation of the control team objectives and project execution to assist customers in developing advanced control systems and microgrids. Their primary responsibility is to manage and oversee the delivery of projects from scoping, planning, and resourcing, through to commissioning and delivery. The Assistant Manager - Power Systems Control supervises a team of engineering professionals in the execution of projects involving power systems engineering and design, SCADA engineering, programming, and microgrid control applications. These projects are for commercial and industrial facilities, renewable energy sites, microgrid systems, distribution automation systems, and standalone islanded systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Planning & Operational Management

  • Establish goals and objectives for the team to achieve immediate or short-term results
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Power Systems Control team to ensure seamless coordination, on-time project delivery and customer satisfaction
  • Implement operating processes, methodologies, and tools to ensure the team's effectiveness and achievement of successful business outcomes
  • Track and manage project delivery to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget and meet quality standards
  • Step in to help problem solve technical issues escalated by project teams to ensure ongoing compliance with customer specifications and regulatory standards
  • Conduct site visits, meet with key customer stakeholders, support business development activities, and resolve project-related issues to bring projects back on track and ensure customer satisfaction
  • Maintain relationships with leaders across the organization (including sales, engineering, product development, operations and safety) to ensure seamless coordination, planning and alignment of shared priorities and work
  • Share customer needs and feedback to support S&C product teams in planning enhancements to existing products and the development of new products
  • Oversee that all required Professional Engineering licenses are obtained and maintained
  • Monitor and control expenses in line with the Grid Enablement departmental budget
  • Track project budgets in partnership with Project Managers ensuring utilization rate and revenue targets are met

Safety

  • Champion safe working practices and oversee the efforts to ensure the required tools, training and checks are in place to maintain zero lost time injury and other safety KPIs
  • Ensure the strict observance of all relevant US and/or international safety and environmental laws, standards and requirements
  • Collaborate with the safety and environmental department to review and update Grid Enablement safety policies, procedures and practices

Business Development

  • Promote S&C's Grid Master Microgrid Controller and other Grid Enablement products and service capabilities with customers across the US
  • Partner with the Sales team as required to support customer meetings relating to grid control engineering support
  • Write, scope, and price proposals for federal, commercial, and industrial customers and coordinate with Sales Operations as required for quotations
  • Build and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders (Utilities, government agencies, technology providers etc.) to remain on top of market trends and to promote S&C's engineering capabilities
  • Travel and represent PSS at industry events and customer engagements in the area of expertise

Project Execution

  • Oversee, check and review team members' work and guide the team to achieve quality results for the customer
  • Provide appropriate technical guidance to engineers within the project teams to ensure design standards and work practices are implemented
  • Interpret and support the team on the application of industry standards and requirements including NEC, NFPA, and related IEEE and IEC standards

People Management

  • Direct and review the work of the team to accomplish operational results
  • Act in accordance with appropriate and professional workplace behaviors, address/mediate conflicts to restore harmony, and support a positive, healthy and inclusive workplace culture in accordance with S&C's mission, vision, values and guiding principles
  • Initiate administrative decisions and processes including but not limited to recruitment, induction, vacation management, performance reviews, performance improvement plans, and workforce/succession planning
  • Establish, monitor, and hold team members accountable to clear responsibilities, provide ongoing performance feedback (both positive and developmental), address performance gaps promptly and initiate corrective actions and approval for terminations where required
  • Support the growth and development of team members, recognize and reward their achievements and proactively train, mentor and coach team members
  • Understand and comply with all applicable Company policies and rules

Reporting

  • Monitor and prepare performance reports and communicate results against operational objectives and KPIs with leadership and other key stakeholders as required
  • Act as a champion for Salesforce and leverage reporting tools and dashboards to track goals and progress

What you'll Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in the power systems industry and at least five (5) years of advanced SCADA or microgrid controls exposure
  • Minimum of three (3) years of management experience in operations and/or engineering with success in project execution
  • Detailed knowledge of electrical power systems with experience working with Microgrids, Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) interconnection, SCADA protocols, programming and other control applications
  • Knowledge of codes and standards including NEC, NESC, and other relevant power system standards
  • Demonstrated success in the delivery of complex, industry-specific concepts and solutions
  • Basic management approaches and experience supervising geographically dispersed teams of engineers
  • Sound business acumen and analytical skills with the ability to analyze data to drive informed decisions and problem-solve difficult issues
  • Uses discovery techniques to identify the customers' needs and tie them to S&C's solutions to create revenue growth opportunities
  • Communication skills, (written, verbal, listening and presentation) with the ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders from key professionals and support staff through junior management
  • Creative and persuasive in communicating to gain cooperation with a wide range of stakeholders across different departments and with customers
  • Interpersonal skills to establish meaningful relationships in person and a remote environment, fostering collaborative working relationships amongst a diverse audience
  • Excellent organizational, planning and project management skills, coordinating internal and external resources and juggling a team working across a heavy volume of diverse projects
  • The ability to travel as required to project and/or customer sites

Preferred:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or PRINCE2
  • Professional Engineer - PE (USA) or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience in CRM systems (Salesforce desirable) maintaining and leveraging data for reporting purposes
  • Proficient computer skills including experience using Oracle and Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
